One bad inning in each of their two games against the Frazee, Minn., Hornets Tuesday spelled trouble for the Breckenridge-Campbell-Tintah Cowgirls' softball team, as the Hornets downed Breckenridge 14-0 and 12-2.

"I think we played really well in the second game," coach Reed Johnson said. "We stayed with them until the late innings. In the first game, we were just outmatched."

Frazee hit the ball well, were aggressive on the base paths and scored three runs in the top of the first inning off Cowgirls' starter Alysa Clift.

Frazee then got seven runs in the second inning, including a home run to center field.

Jordan Reiff led off the bottom of the second with a double, but was unable to score. Reiff was 2 for 2 in the first game.

Frazee scored two more runs in the fourth inning, and twice again in the fifth inning to close out the game early.

In the second game, Baylee Wilson started for the Cowgirls and Breckenridge played as the home team. In the top of the first inning, the Cowgirls got two runners on but could not score. Frazee got a runner to second base in the bottom of the first and also failed to score. The game moved quickly and remained scoreless until the fourth inning. In the top of the inning, Reiff again led off with a double.

Alisha Goodijohn followed with a single to score Reiff. Goodijohn took second base with the throw home. Goodijohn scored after two consecutive wild pitches and the Cowgirls led 2-0. In the bottom of the inning, the Hornets tied the game. They plated two runs and only a throw out at the plate prevented more runs from scoring.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Hornets found the offensive punch from the first game and scored eight times. A single, three triples and a double accounted for much of the offense in the inning, along with continued aggressiveness on the bases. Trailing 10-2, the Cowgirls got runners on base in the sixth inning. Reiff collected her fifth hit of the double header and Goodijohn followed with a hit. But, the Cowgirls could not drive in the runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Hornets ended the game on the 10 run rule. Frazee starting pitcher Stephanie Montoya hit a two run home run to make the final score 12-2. The Cowgirls travel to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton for two games with the Rebels on Thursday. Print this story Email this story Post a Comment Copyright © 2009 The Daily News
