Our new “Reader of the Month” feature will highlight a member of the Breckenridge community. The reader will share books he or she likes to read, any recent books read and the role reading has played in his or her life.
Reed Johnson is Breckenridge Library’s March “Reader of the Month.” He teaches social studies and coaches at Campbell-Tintah High School. Reed lives in Breckenridge with his wife, Cathy, and has two adult daughters who were familiar faces at the library when they were children.
Reed is a mystery/suspense buff, but enjoys an occasional biography as well. A few of his favorite authors are Vince Flynn and James Patterson.
“I like Flynn’s books because he is a Minnesota author and his books are suspenseful and government related. I enjoy Patterson’s books because they are easy to read page turners!” Johnson said.
Recently, Reed enjoyed reading “Divine Justice” by David Baldacci, which is the latest installment in the “Camel Club” series.
“I recently read ‘Quiet Strength’ by Tony Dungy and found it to be very inspiring. ‘The Richest Man in Town’ by V.J. Smith was the best short book (95 pages) I have read,” he added.
Reed is a lifelong reader and remembers his family using a play on words when referring to the family “Reed-er,” due to the pleasure he received from the written word.
As a coach and sports enthusiast, Reed couldn’t resist combining his love of sports with his love of reading.
“In 1994 I made a New Year’s resolution to read a book a month and have kept that resolution every year since. My mom and I had a contest in 1995, because we both read 25 books in 1994. In 1995 she read 56 and I read 64. We never had the contest again. I have read 509 books since 1994.” Johnson said.
He is a competitor and statistician in reading as well as sports.
“The Breckenridge Library provides great service and has caring staff. Keep up the excellent work!” concluded Johnson.
Thanks, Reed!
