Campbell-Tintah senior high students participated in their first Knowledge Bowl (KB) competition on December 18th at Concordia College in Moorhead. Team members are Jacob Hunstable, Brady Keller, Mike Kvidt, Marian Sprung, Rebekah Sprung, Ruth Sprung, and Courtney Walkup. They placed 12th out of 23 schools in “A” Division on the first day of the two-day event. This match kicks off the KB season for the Region 4 senior high level, and is one of the largest matches of the year, involving a total of 80 teams from 31 schools, split into “A” and “AA” divisions.
The competition involves a written round of 60 questions answered as a team within a 50-minute time frame, followed by four oral rounds of 45 questions each. In the oral rounds, three teams of four students each compete to be the first to answer questions correctly. Questions span all subjects that may be taught in a high school curriculum. The number of questions in each area are approximately proportional to their emphasis in the curriculum.
The competition is a great means for students from all around the area to meet and enjoy an activity with each other, as well as getting a sense of the caliber of students they will compete with in college and their future careers. The regular high school season runs through February, with sub-regional and regional matches in March, and the state meet in April.
