Article Reviews

Worth 25 points each

I. Format for all article reviews:

a. Read one article.

b. Copy the original article ( Copy the article in the Library- I have an account for you to use.)

c. Write a one paragraph summary of the article.

d. The second paragraph should be your critique of the article. What did you think of the article; would you like to learn more; or do you think this is a waste of time and energy.

e. Must be typed, double spaced.

e. ALWAYS CITE THE SOURCE-- SEE EXAMPLE

Includes authors name, magazine name, volume number, date and page number. Follow format listed in

II. In class on due date:

a. Be prepared to discuss your article

b. Turn in the article review and the copy.

III. Grading- 25 Points

a. Typed= 5 pts

b. Correct spelling and grammar. - 1pt each

c. Bibliography 3 pts.

d. Content of first paragraph. = 5pts.

e. Content of second paragraph. Opinion must be well defined.= 7 pts.

f. Late articles are not accepted. Must be turned in on due date by 5pm.

Article # One

Topic: General article that relates to computer or information systems.

Source: article should be found from a general purpose magazine or newspaper. -- Newsweek; Time; Chicago Tribune, etc.

Topic: Find and review an article on a new software product.

Source: Any source you can find.

Article #3

Topic: Article related to computer hardware (monitors, input, output devices); processing (chips, RAM memory, cache, processing chips) or secondary storage ( hard drives, zip disk, floppies).

Topic: Find an article about the use of computers in your academic field. For example; if you want to be a teacher, find an article about how computer are being used in teaching.

Source: A trade publication from your field of interest.

Citing Sources from the network ( www. AOL, etc.)

Last name of Author, First Name of Author (if given). “Title of Article.” Title of Journal (if applicable) volume no., issue no., other identifying information (Year or date of publication): no. pages or paragraphs (or n.page.) Online. Internet. Date of access. Available protocol address path

Here’s a general rule: If you cannot find some of the information- for example, the version number or vendors’ name- use what is available
