"An Affair of Honor"

By William Armstrong

Avila was the newest stranger in town.
Few could match his skill with a sword,
And if you ever crossed paths with him,
You'd better start praying to the Lord.

First he tried to goad Diego into a duel,
But he found out he couldn't succeed.
Calling de la Vega a coward got him nowhere;
Another course of action he would need.

Avila soon discovered Diego's Achilees' heel,
His father, Alejandro, he found was the key.
Diego wouldn't stand for an insult
To be directed at his father, you see.

Now Diego found himself being challenged,
His friends were having thoughts of dread.
How could Diego defeat this master swordsman?
If only Zorro would show up instead!

Sergeant Garcia and Corporal Reyes arrived
To try to teach Diego how to handle a blade.
But the efforts they thought were unsuccessful,
And so a new plan of operation was made.

They clubbed Diego on the head very hard,
And tied him up so Avila he couldn't face.
When Diego did not show up for the duel,
Alejandro now had to take his place.

Alejandro was no match for Avila's blade,
But just in time Zorro appeared on the scene.
He shrugged his cape aside, ready for action;
Alejandro was wondering where Diego had been.

The duel between Zorro and Avila ensued,
Blades crossed, both were up to the test.
The stranger needed to be taught a lesson,
And once again Zorro proved he was the best.

Avila was a beaten man who would move on;
Zorro humiliated him in front of everyone.
Another chapter in the life of El Zorro the Fox
And this "affair of honor" was now all done.
