What is an Author Study?
An author study is an exploration of the life experiences and motivations of authors and illustrators, as well as their approach to writing and style. It is a valuable instructional tool used to give students insight into the books of award-winning, well-loved children's authors.
The goal of an author study is to draw students into the books, to discover common themes, to become familiar with characters and settings, and ultimately to seek out books written by familiar authors. It is important to help students to identify with authors and see themselves as authors too.
