- Biography
Nas began his debut to the hip hop world with his first album "Illmatic". The album was instantly considered as a classic and laid
unforgettable moments of Nas' lyrics about the ghetto living. After that, Nas was considered as one of the most important writers of
the century by the "Village Voice." Next, Nas made the albums "It Was Written in 1996, I Am in 1999, and Nastradamus in 1999, all
of which were platinum selling. In those albums, Nas was writing dense songs along with some of the biggest rappers in the hip hop
world. However, his latest album, "Stillmatic", shows a more mature star. Nas started out as a so-called "Project Kid", but is now
considered a rap super star. "Stillmatic" is in fact an updated version of Nas' first album "Illmatic", ready for a new century. It is in this
album that Nas changes styles and shows his musical versatility. This is shown in many songs including "Got Yourself a Gun" when
Nas tells in detail about his earlier accomplishments. nas would not be where he is today if he had not looked into the political climate
of today. One of example is the September 11th attack which took place in his hometown, New York. nas denounces these sorts of
various evils through his songs. One of these songs is "Poison" in which Nas tries to tell about his Union, which started in the streets.
Though his album "Stillmatic" may put Nas back on top, his goal with this new record is not to become rich, but to enrich the entire
hip hop nation so that fans everywhere can remember it by its very essence. The only achievement Nas expects from his hip hop
career is to be remembered by his own identity and merely be heard as well as be respected. | |
