Like they say "slow and steady wins the race." Over the course of their six-year career KILLARMY have slowly and steadily built a solid foundation of skills and fans. With two powerful albums under their belt and with the release of the third Fear, Love, & War, KILLARMY is ready to tear the roof off in their own unique militaristic way. KILLARMY, Wu-tang's most militant order of MC's, got its start in 1995 when the four New York-based members of the group: Killa Sin, 9th Prince, Dom Pachino, and Islord, met up with 3 MC's out of Ohio: Baretta 9, Shogun, and the group's chairman of the board - the only producer in the group, 4th Disciple. 9th Prince, RZA's little brother was responsible for bringing the group together. "KILLARMY started with the four of us in Shaolin but Prince also knew of some MC's in Ohio that had the same military mind state as us that he thought would complete the cipher, explains Killa Sin, who is the sibling of Wu-chief Power, the fit was perfect." When asked about combining the cultures of the East coast and the Mid-west Killa Sin states, "On the real, every ghetto's the same when you get down to it. So the fact that they from Ohio and we from New York didn't really matter. We all came up through the same adversity, the same struggle. We all gutta'." With the lineup complete the group had all of their bases covered: Seven vicious MC's and an in-house producer whose platinum bangers would end up on million plus sellers like 36 Chambers and Tical 2000. Within the next three years the collective would go on to release two critically acclaimed full-lengths: Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars and Dirty Weaponry on Priority Records. When the Priority deal was over, RZA seeing the group's ability swiftly signed the group to his new label, 36 Records that is distributed by Loud Records. The fit made perfect sense because Loud is renown for their ability to work street artists like they're mainstream; turning seemingly underground acts platinum. After two years in the lab, with Fear, Love & War, KILLARMY has concocted their strongest album to date. "The name comes from a song we had on our first album called "Fair, Love & War," explains Dom P. I just switched the Fair to Fear because everybody's got some fear in his or her life. It's just a part of life. Executive produced by RZA with production by Army-member 4th Disciple and newcomer Falling Down, Fear… is a dark and majestic masterpiece. Tracks like the unrelenting "Monster" and the sentimentally sensual "Lady Sings The Blues" typify the album's shadowy beauty. There's the eerily haunting "Street Monopoly" where the militant MCs trade viscous bars about the cold, cold world they inhabit. And on the album's closer and first single, "Feel It," KILLARMY reveals their hidden pain over knocking drums, baroque vocal samples, and emotive violins. Filled with spooky keys and subtle guitar licks, 4th Disciple has reached a new level of sonic sophistication in his production. But the MC's are as raw as ever. From the jump-off the group drops jewels and spit darts just like they always did. "This album is just a more mature version of what we've been doing since our first record," says Killa Sin. "We're just trying to kill all the negativity in our cipher. We're not with all those funny style raps about cars and jewelry, we're trying to feed the mind with our music." Thankfully now the seven verbal ninjas have an album of unparalleled quality. With Fear… their insightful and powerful message will again resonate in the heads of fans. There is no doubt that after six years of blood, sweat, and tears KILLARMY is sure to win the war in 2001.
