| Big Pun |
Endangered Species (24 Tracs/5 Shortz) |
| 1. Intro [:15] |
Excerpt from
Big Pun Interview. |
| 2. You Ain't
A Killa [3:52] |
One of the few
singles with Big Pun doing his thang solo. Nice piano riffed beat with madd
BASE. |
| 3. Twinz (Deep
Cover '98) [3:48] f/ Fat Joe |
You all should
remember this one. It was a vido single back ndaDay. It is a cover of the
Dre/Snoop single from the movie. That Baseline is still blazing. |
| 4. Whatcha Gon
Do [3:07] f/ Terror Squad |
Another former
video single this one is from the last Terror Squad album. |
| 5. How We Roll
[3:34] f/ Ashanti |
This is currently
the video single that is blowing up. Nice video single and even better on
CD. The Base is tight. Lyrically the late Pun is at his best. |
| 6. Still Not
A Player [3:58] f/ Joe |
Still another
former Big Pun hit and video single from the not so distant past. |
| 7. Off The Books
[2:48] f/ Beatnuts & Cuban Link |
This is a Beatnuts
trac that is blessed with Big Pun's voice on a quick verse. |
| 8. Words From
Nore [:52] |
Nore laying
some industry shiznit. |
| 9. Banned From
T.V. [4:19] f/ Noreaga, JadaKiss, Styles, Nature, Cam' Ron |
This trac has
Swizz Beatz signature sound and style. As the case when he blesses a trac
Jadakiss steals this one and Nore's distinctive voice makes this one a summer
banger. |
| 10. Mamma [4:16]
f/ Tony Sunshine |
This trac has
that latin flava intro and guitar riff over a funky bassline courtesy of
producer Alchemist. Pun lays a Dear Momma inspired flow. |
| 11. The Beat
Box [:14] |
Wack azz Pun
style beat box. |
| 12. Brave In
The Heart [3:56] f/ Terror Squad |
Pure Terror
Squad with Big Pun spitting straight butta!! Headz will be nodding!! |
| 13. The Dream
Shatterer [3:19] Original Version |
At first listen
this trac reminds of a Nore trac. The same horn being sampled appears to
be the reason. I could be wrong. Let me know. |
| 14. Words With
Fat Joe [:37] |
Joey Crack saying
a few words and introing next trac. |
| 15. John Blaze
[4:06] f/ Fat Joe, Nas, Raekwon, & Jadakiss |
Without a doubt
the guest are John Blazing on this trac. My pick as the best Trac thus far
on the album? |
| 16. My World
[3:29] | Horn heavy and
on the darkside. This is My World love it or leave it.? |
| 17. Pina Colada
[4:09] f/ Ruff Ryders & Sheik |
Another Swizz
Beatz produce trac and yes it has his signature style. |
| 18. Top Of The
World (Remix) [3:48] f/ Brandy, Fat Joe |
Brandy with
Mase is how this trac was first released, but Big Pun and Joe do justice
on this remix of sorts. |
| 19. Livin' La
Vida Loca (Remix) [2:43] f/ Ricky Martin, Fat Joe, Cuban Link |
First it is
la Vida Loca with Ricky Martin and second it doesn't work! |
| 20. Fire Water
[4:15] f/ Fat Joe, Raekwon, Armageddon |
Raekwon seems
to kick some recycled rhymes. I know. I know. Shame on him. I can't figure
out the title and where it fits in. |
| 21. Classic
Verses (Drop It Heavy and Fantastic 4) [2:18] |
A couple of
tracs from different albums fused together to make one thick mixed azz trac. |
| 22. Freestyle
W/ Remy Martin [1:33] |
I thought this
was part of the last trac, but I was hearing things. Not much here just
shorty kicking a verse. |
| 23. Wishful
Thinking [4:00] f/ Fat Joe, Kool G Rap, & B Real |
Take 24 to live
and turn it up a notch. Add one of the greatest spitters of all time, Kool
G. Rap and you have a phat trac. Wishful Thinking is what they had in mind
when they released this album. |
| 24. How We Roll
'98 [4:07] | Smooth mellow
Trac with the kids on the hook. |
| Final Note: |
I tried to
look at Endangered Species as a new release, but I had a hard time doing
so. The CD does contain a few tracs labeled "Unreleased" in the
liner notes. I am wondering if unreleased is the same as new or unreleased
as in not good enuff the first time around. Endangered Species is at best
a greatest hits collection. This alone makes it worth having because all
of Big Pun's best known tracs are on it. |
