Well this is the new version of my "HipHopJoint". I decided to expland the selection of music I give props to because honestly I dont listen to ONLY Hip Hop. Once again I'd like to point out the mentions here are MY personal favorites. So if you happened to disagree with my picks just drop me an email and YOUR favorites will be featured here. I'm an OL SKOOL HIP HOP head so dont expect to see any new "mainstream, pop" bullshit on here, 'cause honestly I dont like that garbage. So if you lookin for somebody to give all the lastest chart toppers props please direct your attention to MTV.com ....Ok Here we go:

Well originally I started this with my top five emcees but that list has changed...

Hunnie's Favorite Emcee!

KRS-One!!!

(Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone)

Well anybody that knows me knows I'm into KRS for life. Once again I insist that KRS can rip in any form or fashion...From underground...to rock...to reggae, KRS brings heat to all types of styles and sounds. His lyrical content ranges from easily comperhersive to highly complex without missing a beat. There's no doubt in my mind that KRS gives the greatest LIVE performance! (Actually I wasnt a big fan of Kris til I saw him live, no joke). Even the people that put up the hardest front, wind up jumping around during his sets (That was what happened all three times I've been to his concert). And on top of all that the brutha, lectures (been there too), produces, is a graff and comic book artist, writes for various mags and books, and is considered one of the pioneers of Hip Hop culture. KRS-One is a excellent example of a tru emcee and like he says "STILL # 1"! =-)

Honorable Mentions:

Rakim Allah

What can I say, I love Rakim just like everyone else. For a long time Rakim was my fav emcee (but his longetivity aint really a strong factor and I've never seen/heard him live). One thing I can remember about Rakim is he bought a realness to the scene. Rakim didnt really have a gimic like the majority of emcees of his day. He was there to do his job (rip mics) and he did it...WELL! I gotta give props to him for layin' down my favorite lyrical quote: "...I take 7 emcees put em in a line/and add 7 more brothers that think they can rhyme/ well it'll take 7 more before i go for mine/ now that's 21 emcees ate up at the same time..." - "My Melody" from the 'Paid In Full' album

Nas

I don't give a damm about what anybody says Nas is nice as hell. Who would have ever thought that kid that had a lil cameo on "Live At the Barbeque" would have so much skill. Don't front... When "Illmatic" came out he had EVERYBODY open. (He had me open in MANY ways. hehehe. I'm sorry but Nas is a cutie, fa real!). Ok I'll admit Nas fell off alil sumthin, sumthin. Like that joint he did with Ginuwine. Yeah I can shake my ass to it down the club but seriously what the fuck was he thinkin? I guess everyone is entitled to a hit. But don't sleep on Nas...I think GAY-Z learned the hard way.

Ghostface Killa & Raekwon the Chef

Now I know these are two separate emcees but together they are an amazing team. I automatically associate them as a unit because truth is they bring out the best in each other. Their ability to weave together anything into their rhymes and their clear but gritty delivery makes them the shining stars of the Wu in my eyes. Back when 36 Chambers came out, while everybody was jumpin all on Meth's dick and singing along with Ol' Dirty I was waiting to hear more Ghost & Rae. (Remember when Ghost used to always hide his face with like a stocking type thang? And remember when you first saw him without it and said "DAMM!" 'cuz you didnt know he was that sexy?... Well I do! lol)

Mos Def

When I first heard Mos Def my eyes bugged out and I literally said "Whoa, Who's THAT?" I'm not askin that stupid question no more. Mos, too, has the ability to flip in various fashions and still keep it tight. From poetry, to harmonizing, to acting, to good ol emceeing Mos Def is developing as a new school pioneer.

Lauryn Hill

YES, Lauryn Hill! Yeah I know it seems that L-Boogie is directing her focus more to singing but I still consider her to be a gifted emcee. Sista gyrl got skills, fa real. Good breath control, steady projection and TIGHT lyrics with meaning.

BlackThought

The voice of The Roots. Black Thought's the only emcee I've ever seen that can rhyme with a live band like his voice is an instrument. I also gotta give props to Ahmir/?uestlove... my boy Blackout called him the "Hardest Working Man In Hip Hop". I'm sayin is ?uestlove the ONLY Black man that can play the drums? Everywhere you look he's there wit his big ass 'Fro chillin on the drums... Do you EVER go home, mayn?! lol
