[ping]
A Ping is a way to check the distance between your computer and the computer of another user. This is done through CTCP. On IRC, this is done with '/ctcp Nickname PING.' Which would than bring the response in seconds. Hopefully.

[lag]
Lag occurs when two computers are quite far apart. You can PING the user to see how much lag there actually is between you and the other computer. You can DCC Chat the user, which will avoid server lag. By DCC Chatting the person, you are bypassing the server.

[flood]
A flood is a series of rapid CTCP requests to the server. If you do rapid CTCP requests to someone, they may get 'flooded off'. Because the server is receiving too many bytes from them. Vice-Versa, Others can do rapid CTCP requests at you, causing you to get 'flooded off'.

[scripts]
Scripts are enhancements to an IRC client, they can provide easier ways to get around, and provide new features to your IRC client. The best script is the one you make yourself, because only you know what you want out of your IRC client.

[clones]
Clones are basically used for forms of harrasment, they provide a way to 'flood' via many IRC clients. Cloning can get you K-Lined.

[bots]
Bots can be used for fun and games, channel maintenence, or harrasment purposes. They are either ran off another IRC client or off a Unix shell account (ie. Eggdrop)

[eggdrop]
An Eggdrop bot is ran off a Unix shell account, so you must have one to run it. Eggdrops are used for channel maintenence and can link to other eggdrops, creating a virtual IRC server.

[netsplit]
A netsplit occurs when one network 'splits' from another network, causing many users to disconnect.

[mirc]
mIRC is a very configurable Windows based IRC client, it is available at http://www.mirc.co.uk/get.html

[ircii]
ircII is a configurable client for Unix-based computers. It is available on many public FTP sites.

[bitchx]
BitchX is a script for ircII which adds a more colorful enviroment, as well as more features. It is available at many public FTP sites.

[ircop]
IRC Operators make sure the server is running smoothly, some actively hunt bots. IRC Operators are not for solving channel/nickname problems.

[chanop]
Channel Operators make sure the channel runs smoothly, if you have a question or complaint, talk to them.

[voice]
Voice (+v) gives a user permission to talk in a moderated (+m) channel.

[dcc]
A good cure to solve these DCC problems is to start with this: 1) Disconnect from your IRC server. 2) Go to File + Setup + Local Info, then Clear the current text in the Local Host and IP Address boxes under File/Setup in the Local_Info dialog. 3) Select both 'On connect, Always get' Local Host and IP Address options in the Local_Info dialog. 4) Set 'Method' to Normal. 5) Leave the Local_Info dialog and the File/Setup menu both with 'OK'. 6) Reconnect to your IRC server.
