CEO Joonyah Browne of 229 Records

Mistah Southern: Yeah and we up in here chillin with Joonyah Browne, CEO of 229 Records, so whats happening mane how ya living?

Joonyah Browne: Just chillin' playa. We just tryin' to make it happen. We gettin' movin' on up there though!

Mistah Southern: Aight so yall from the south so we already know yall on that southern tip, which seems to be popular in the hip hop/rap scene these dayz so what makes a person want to be like aw mane that 229 Record kliq bringing that fire, basically what yall got that no one else gots?

Joonyah Browne: 229 is real niggas. We do not only represent South GA, but we represent all niggas. Most labels rap about the same types of niggas. Dope boys, pimps, ballas, gangstas, etc. 229 is a melting pot of niggas that everyone can relate to. I mean, everybody don't slang dope, some niggas rather sit on they ass while they women make the money, some niggas is crooks, some niggas move kilos, some niggas crazy bout cars, some nigga live for money, some niggas would rather knuckle up than shoot, some niggas will shoot they hell out cho ass! Know what I'm sayin'? 229 got a little of every kind of nigga and female. So everybody can relate to at least one rapper. That's why I believe we are coming up so rapidly. And it don't hurt to mention we just plain Krunkk Tyght!!!

Mistah Southern: Being the CEO of 229 Records who some of the other playas or playettes on there, rappers, producers, managers and etc?

Joonyah Browne: Aw man, we got me, my niggas SB3, Ghetto Lords, T. Nasty, Evil-I, Lil' Shaykah, The Gate, my girl Ellie Anne, Southeast Playas, the 9ers, G.A.T.K., and others commin' soon. We got our own beat team which is Tin Roof Productions. We working with Chemiztry the dope beat maker at titetracks.com We working with some of Field Mob's producers. We got a tyght staff. The 229 family is ‘bout doing it up!

Mistah Southern: Got a song called Fuck Pastor Troy... some people get the wrong message from it like yall hatin on Troy would ya like to clear this subject up?

Joonyah Browne: Yeah, I ‘m glad you asked that. 229 feels Troy has been ‘bout ho ass shit since he came up. He done rode dicks to the top. That song "Fuck Pastor Troy" is a underground joint we did to get that shit off our chests. We know a lot of folk is on Troy's dick. Troy is some folks hero. We just hate to see real niggas stuck on a ho ass hata. We might seem hypocritical stoopin' to his level. We might be. But, we just needed to let folk know how we feel. We ain't hatin' like he be doin', we just tellin' it like it is shit. Please don't get us wrong, we ain't tryin' to come up off his name. We wouldn't even feel right doing that shit. We wouldn't and never will cut a nationwide disc with hatin' concepts like this, Fuck Troy's name. Thats basically it. Folks can go to 229 Records and go to Fuck Pastor Troy and click the Song Story button for the full 229 press release. Mistah Southern: Are u yourself just CEO or do you flow, produce, promote or anything else for the label?

Joonyah Browne: When I say Ceo, I mean CEO! I head up all departments including promotion, production, A&R, and distibution. My album will be the second nationwide disc released on 229 Records(the first will be the "Get Right" movie soundtrack/compilation).

Mistah Southern: Aight question been waiting fo where yall from... go ahead and represent that shit...

Joonyah Browne: Yeah Yeah. We from the 229(area code for Southwest Georgia). The 229 is Southwest GA, a rural jungle with several counties and small towns. We got rappers from several of these counties and towns. Personally, I represent the Tuner County district. But we got niggas from Tift, Crisp, ALB, Cook, Worth, Ben Hill, Lowndes and the list goes on. Yeah, we been through it all. Especially Poverty and Violence. My folks had to get out and ball to keep me and my sisters' belly full and body clean. A lot of niggas don't know how it goes on down here. My niggas Field Mob from Albany, GA the first rappers from the "9" who gettin' nationwide exposure talkin' bout being broke and commin' up. See, me and my folks can't be broke no mo'. We doin' it up. I'm gettin' phat and watchin' my whole crew blow up! We fixin' to let the world know about us. Most niggas outside of Georgia only know of Atlanta. If you say GA, first thang pop in they minds is the ATL. There is life outside north GA(ATL, Augusta, Athens). Just ask them dope boys who ride 75 South from the ATL to Florida. The 229 is just a big dope storage area with killas, ballas, and hoes. We gone let the world know ‘bout them 9ers!

Mistah Southern: When can we expect some releases from 229 Records and from what artist and how can we cop that when it drop?

Joonyah Browne: We commin' out with our movie, "Get Right"! We are almost through filmin'. It will be playing in select cities and theaters, then it will be released on home video fall of 2001. But, the soundtrack(the first 229 nationwide album), will be released late summer of 2001! The "Get Right" soundtrack is a 229 compilation with everybody on the 9 on it. The movie and soundtrack tell a story about 229 livin'. Lots of ballin, dealing, and hoes! Cop em' both next summer and fall. I don't want to ruin the surprise, so I'll just say we got some fire guest appearances on the movie and soundtrack! After that, my album will drop. Then Ghetto Lords, Ellie, SB3, T. Nasty, Lil' Shaykah, and so on. 2001 is our time to shine! Also look for us at Daytona Beach spring break 2001!

Mistah Southern: Who inspired yall to get up in this game, like inspirations? And for up and comin artist who yall is inspirations fo what would ya give them as in advice?

Joonyah Browne: Yeah, we like Mystikal, Too $hort, Hypnotize Mindz, Bone Thugs, UGK, No Limit, Eightball & MJG. Niggas like that inspired us. They're rap pioneers who forced and made themselves come up in the game. And then put out some fire shit! You just got to keep striving and growing. Sometimes it gets hard, but stick with it. It will pay off. You'll make it eventually.

Mistah Southern: Aight any shout outs yall want to give to yo hood, fam, associates, whatever...

Joonyah Browne: Yeah, a big shout out to all the 9ers out there, my family, and the world. All ya'll my folks.

Mistah Southern: Aight well we'd like to thank yall at 229 Records for chattin with us for a coo minute now playa its yo turn to let loose and tell everyone what ya want them to know bout yall or up comin projects
