Hi, my name is Valerie Lynn Thompson, I was born on the 3rd of October 2001 at the Maine Medical Center, in Portland Maine. I was only 1 Pound 3 Onces at birth (I was born 14 weeks too early), but I hope to gain more soon.

(12/06/01) I am off the vent now, and doing better.. they have this funny tube called a "C-Pap" accross my nose. They have this thing on my head to hold the C-Pap on with (it makes me feel, and look, like I play for the Washington Redskins.... I am doing better my lungs are getting better and are developing.
Mommy and Daddy have returned home. Christmas is going to be rough this year for them.. but it will be ok...
(11/25/01) My Mommy and Daddy were told that I have "Cryonic Lung Disease" which means that I may grow up with asthma. They Also say that I have a lung infection and the Dr. does not know what it is, so he has me away from all the other boys and girls here... then to top it off, They now tell me that I have "Acid Reflux" and may have to go on medication for it....
My mommy and daddy have to wear gloves and special gowns to touch me and see me. My Daddy was able to hold me (11/16/01) for the first time. The nurse said that he can only do it once, so he made the best of it. I am still sick and do not weigh that much. I have not been held by my Mommy yet, and I do not know what that is like, but my daddy holding me will do just fine for now. :-)
They have been feeding me on a 24 cal "Special Care Formula". That is only 4 cals from what you can get in the stores. They told my Daddy today that I cannot go home on this type of formula, so by Feb. I have to be off it and eating normal stuff.
(11/21/01) I had an eye exam today. They were just checking me out to see if I can see the world or not.. (I could have told them that I could see fine.. but no one seems to here me talk but my Mommy and Daddy.) I did not handle it too well, my heart rate dropped and I stopped breathing again. The nurse and Dr had to run over and "Bag" me. Daddy says that they should just leave me alone, but he will not tell them that.. :-) (Daddy is afraid of the Dr I think)
(11/19/01) They moved me into a private room today. I am in an "Isolation Room" because of me being sick. The Dr's want to still keep me awy from everyone out there in the main room.
(11/16/01) I had my first bath today!!!! The nurse told me I was looking kinda scally, so she gave me a sponge bath.. I liked the warm water. I smiled, and opened my eyes. My hair came out funny, but the nurses were kinda nice, and only a few laughed at me.
(11/15/01)** Mommy and Daddy were up seeing me quite late the other night (12:30 AM). I stopped breathing shortly after they came up. The Dr and nurse came running over and "Bagged" me. They told my Daddy that everything was ok, but Daddy was still upset (Mommy Cried). I smiled for my Daddy, after the Dr and nurse left me alone, just to let him know I was ok.**
Well, the Dr. is telling me I have to get off this thing and get back in bed... I will put more on here later... Check back everyday. This site changes often.

I was held by my Daddy for the FIRST TIME!!!! I fell asleep in my Daddy's arms. The nurse let my daddy hold me for an hour and told him that "This is the best she has EVER slept." The Pictures are below....
