Q. What does Lamentations mean in Hebrew? A. Jeremiah notes = How (i.e., How could you not repent?, etc.)
Q. When was Lamentations written? A. Lamentations notes = 586 B.C., right before Jerusalem's destruction.
Q. What is this book about? A. Lamentations 1:1 = Sadness for the ruin of Jerusalem at the hands of Babylon.
Q. Why did this happen? A. Lamentations 1:5 = As punishment from God for unrepentant, continual sin (cf. 3:1)
Q. Why should I stay hopeful in bitter circumstances? A. Lamentations 3:19-24 = 1) I'm still alive!
2) God's faithfulness is great
3) God's mercies begin fresh every day
4) God is my inheritance.
Q. When I go through a trial, how should I behave? A. Lamentations 3:25:26 = As quietly waiting for the Lord to save me in it.

Q. What results when folks endure the yoke of God's discipline? A. Lamentations 3:27-29 = They receive hope.
Q. What is humility? A. Lamentations 3:27-30 = Taking one's discipline for sinning from God publicly, not trying to explain away what's happening to me.
Q. How does one endure it? A. Lamentations 3:31 = Knowing it will be over soon.
Q. Why does God not destroy His people for their great sins? A. Lamentations 3:32 = God is compassionate too.
Q. Does God like to punish? A. Lamentations 3:33 = No!
Q. How bad did Jerusalem get? A. Lamentations 4:6 = Their sins were greater than Sodom's.
Q. Does God want us to examine our ways? A. Lamentations 3:40 = Yes. To discover our idiot sins; to repent of them as a result.
