HARPER JUEANN'S MASTERY INTENT FOR HER MASTER'S KNOT
JUEANN'S MASTERY INTENT FOR HER MASTER'S KNOT!

(Jueann needed to declare her intent for going towards her harper master's knot.-- Jueann, a guide, a helper, a harper on Harper's Tales)

As Jueann's player, I feel she is ready to take that next step in her development as a character and player on Harper's Tale: her mastery in the Harpercraft.

Jueann was created four years ago. Her background history started out as a runaway from an abusive father, who promised her in a land contract to an equally abusive holder as a wife for the holder's nephew. When she joined the harpers, her life continued to read like a soap opera, but she proved her mettle as a survivor. But then, this is not a story about her history but about her accomplishments in the harpercraft and on the MOO.

Unlike most harpers, Jueann has no musical talents, although she knows enough to get by and possesses enough instinct to know what works and what doesn't. She started out with a specialty in Archives/History, but over time, that shifted to teaching. She loves history, but also developed a real love for shaping young minds and lives. She has worked hard in her craft, always willing and able to help where she is needed. So in Jueann's journey as a harper, lover, wife, and mother, she will always be a teaching harper.

On Monday nights for almost 2 years, she taught Pern trivia lessons to anyone 6 to 14 Turns. She stopped doing those lessons as the attendance dropped to almost one or two faithful friends. When I switched hard-drives, all logs were lost.

As for teaching apprentices, Jueann used to give lessons and still does from time to time, but not often. Some of her lessons were: "How to sharpen a Quill", "The Story Process from Idea to Finish Work" and "What's Wrong with this Sentence?". Mainly now, she just answers questions. Occasionally, when prepared for the spam and able to handle it, she will teach a Sign Language lesson, a nice verb but a bit abused . Every once in a great while, she will post an exam for any one on the game to test their knowledge of Pern or Harper's Tale. Special thanks to Shinnai for coding the exam book.

As a harper, she has given many interviews to hopeful harper candidates. Even though the number of interviews is past counting, she has accepted more candidates then she has rejected, and some she wished she hadn't. The more notable apprentices she brought into the craft includes Danel, Thanatos, Torlan and more recently Cherad and Vaeda.

Along with her other duties, Jueann has hand-fasted many couples on the game. One of the first she ever did was Utoxin and Lacyene. When asked for a log, Utoxin said it's gone. We both remember that it took place on a ship that's about it. So many logs are lost on this game. "Jueann's Hand-fasting Guide" can be found on the Harpermaster's Office web page. The most recent is Casch and Lerwin's elopement on the fire heights at Gar Hold a couple weeks ago and Ailis and Khardan's in Ailis' Office. (Khardan has a log, if need be, I can get a copy of it.)

As for the OOC side of craft, Jueann is on the council and was once the OOC Craftmaster for one term. The rule is one leader alt per player. Her player already has a leader elsealt so she is no longer eligible. She has added her voice in helping to run the craft. Often she is the one that usually ask for clarification on certain matters and not challenging authority as it sometimes appears.

As for being on the council, the one thing I, the player, have learnt in dealing with so many different personalities is to pick and choose my battles. Some topics that have come up, I just don't have a formed opinion on them and some, I feel very strongly about. So I listen, watch, and wait. I can be very vocal in my opinions most of the time. I rarely leave doubt on how I feel on any given subject. And except for when I am on vacation, I rarely missed a vote even if I made no comment about the issue at hand.</P>

Granted, it doesn't seem like Jueann has done much for the harper-craft but as her player, I have given much to the overall benefit to Harper's Tale. In that, I am a guide, a helper, a teacher, a guinea pig for testing new verbs and features, but most importantly I am a listener.

As a guide, I help new players set up their characters, answer their questions, deal with their problems. I seem to have a real talent in handling the more troublesome new players.

Monthly, I try to hold Newbie Lessons in Hell to deal with their questions, to teach MOO etiquette and better understanding on how to role-play better on the game. These lessons are very helpful. The logs can be found on my website.

As a good example of helping newbies, look at S'cud. I was the one that OK'd him in the birthplace, however, Jueann didn't interview him for the harpers when he joined. In time, Scud came to one of my lessons in Hell, and now he's a dragon-rider: S'cud. I hold S'cud up to others as an example of a newbie with little clue about the game who has done well.

At present, Jueann and I don't get out and role-play much, except for those few occasions when a friend asks. Friends are good. Spammy role-playing bothers me the player so much so that it is now a standing joke about how much I hate spam. My hands shake and I get anxious in real life. That's why it's rare to see Jueann at a dragon hatching, gatherings, or any spammy situation. From time to time, when it is necessary for me to be in those kinds of situations, I really have prepare myself for it and limit my time in that situation.

When her firelizard gives her eggs, Jueann and I will hold a scavenger hunt to generate role-playing and some fun. We have run several hunts now. People actually look forward to it. From time to time, there are a few troublesome newbies that can't understand or follow the rules, but everyone seems to have fun with it.

Currently, I am, with others, helping to update, write, and proof-reading the helpfiles of Harper's Tale, under Fyren's supervision. Who can refuse an opportunity like this?

You will find if you look, Jueann and I have given much to the game called Harper Tales. We love the game. We should, she and I will have been role-playing on the game for four years.

In writing this intent, it has become obvious that somehow, Jueann and I are indeed harpers both for the game and in the game. What a harper is in the Pern Series, I the player do on the game as a whole. And isn't that what being a harper is all about?
