Hell
From afar, Aaron bows, and is just here to comment?
In a caricature of Jossie, the daemon watches people materialize....kewl...:)
Jueann says, "Feel free to ask questions"
Jueann waits to see who's all coming. "Feel free to comment, ask questions before we start."
Jennette nods.
Aaron waves to the newbies. You're in for a treat, Ju's really good at this...
Devona *about how long will this be? I have an essay to write.
Jueann says, "This is logged"
Jueann says, "Any questions before I start?"
Jueann says, "Ok, I have one fast and hard rule.... No unnecessary spam. Comments, questions discussion are always welcomed."
Jueann says, "The topic is How to stay on the good side of the guides, what is a guide and tips on posing."
Jueann says, "Alright, what is a guide? What is his/her's function?"
Jueann says, "Anyone?"
Lorsalia ahems, "A guide is someone who helps players when they need help (except wizards have more difficult stuff), and they help with minor disputes?"
Jennette says, "A guide's job is to get the new players situated...to sort of teach them the things they need to know to start RPing with. "
Renrow says, "In Character...a way one would act or talk on Pern, if he/she were actually here, and dealing with IC things - things that are here on Pern...like flits and not copy machines, for an example."
Jennette says, "In Character. Something that would make sense on Pern, or whatever M** you're RPing on...a statue of liberty in the middle of High Reaches is /not/ IC"
Jueann says, "And why do the guides help with this?"
Renrow hms, "To keep disputes out, keeping this as a game and as much like -Pern- as it can?"
Jueann says, "Right... Which leads to my next topic, What's the best way to stay on the good side of the guides? When do guides get involved?"
Jennette says, "Guides get involved...when there's statue of liberties in the High Reaches weyrbowl :P"
Jueann shakes her head and chuckles, "Actually no. That's the area leader's problem."
Renrow says, "By not bothering them about trivial bickerings or badgering them about something over and over? Aaand..hmm, when there is someone that needs help with the ICness of HT, right?""
Jueann says, "The guides get involved when there's a problem with someone complaining about something twinkish."
Renrow nods, that being the someone that would need help...;P
Jueann nods. "The guides only get involved when someone complains."
Jennette laughs. "So, until you tell a guide, the twink's your problem."
Jueann says, "I get pages all the time on 'how to...." That's about 80% of the guides work."
Jueann says, "10% is dealing with problems and the other 10% is ok'ing new players in the birthplace"
Jueann says, "Sometimes those numbers change depending on the volume of people going through the birthplace. But... Anyways. When shouldn't you bug a guide?"
Jueann says, "Jennette, basically, it's the Area leader's problem."
Jueann says, "When shouldn't you bug a guide?"
Jueann says, "Well constant paging on your progress on the game wears thin."
Jueann nods. "I've had a few people paging me to help them get a fire lizards, into an area, and asking for private info from me.
Jueann says, "hello Leena. We're discussing when not to bug a guide. Feel free to join in the discussion.""
Leena giggles. "Oh, i know about that..."
Jennette says, "Firelizards...that's the biggest thing not to bug a guide about. Or anyone, for that matter."
Leena says, "Did u tell about the lotto?"
Renrow nods, "Gets verrah old, especially when you've been around long enough to grow not only sick of it, but just don't want to have eggies anymore."
Tolin noddles.
Jueann says, "You can ask a guide questions on fire lizards, how to set them up, etc. But not asking for eggs"
Jueann says, "And you can ask how to a guide. And they'll direct you to the helpfiles and the lottery plus @subscribe *fl"
Jueann says, "That we can help with. That's why we are here for. We don't mind those questions. And if we don't know or can't fix, we give you to someone else who may have the answers. Not all guides are coders and some problems take a wiz to solve.""
Jueann says, "Also, if you are very grateful for the guide help, please please, don't give them an object. We don't need it or want it. I've been given a plant, a plaque and flowers. There were objects to be @chown to my quota. I don't have the quota for it. I don't want another object. If a new player wants to show appreciation to the guides, a nice thank to the person or to *guide is more appropriate."
Jueann says, "hugs are always welcomed too"
Jueann says, "Any questions so far?"
Jueann sighs. "now we'll go to getting on the bad side of the guides. What happens after the warnings to stop and think? Of causing headaches for the guides and not listening to them?
Leena erms and backs off... She wouldn't know aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanything about thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat......
Leena says, "brb, phone"
Renrow, thankfully, has not found the answer to this out first-hand...
Jennette says, "Then, you get reported to the wizards...big trouble."
Jueann chuckles. "We have a detention cell which the guides can drop you into and there you stay until the issue is resolved."
Jueann says, "But it's a choice of last resort. Few of the older players get dropped into it. I've noticed it's mostly new players that aren't learning how to play the game or want to play by the theme rules. 99% of the people that are detained are only a few weeks old."
Jennette oohs. "That's probably the best choice. There, you can teach them about RP when they're by themselves."
Leena grrs and has to go do laundry! Don't talk about anything I wanna know till I get back!
Jueann sighs. "Most time, people in detention just want out. They are angry, hostile people. It takes awhile to get them to understand what they did wrong and why."
Tolin says, "Please note, that the only reason we detain is when someone blatently refuses to listen or continues to interrupt the RP of others."
Jueann nods. "As I said, it's a last resort."
Jueann says, "No Jennette, it isn't. As a guide, I've been threatened, invaded, ignored, spammed. It's not pretty. The guides are only volunteers who have been on the game for a very long time and love it. We aren't the gestepo although some people might think so. We are trying to do our best to make the game run smoothly."
Jueann says, "Anything else before we move on to posing tips? Or more about the job of a guide?"
Jueann says, "Anyone?"
Jueann sighs. "Moving on. Posing tips? What's a good pose?"
Jennette thinks. "A good pose should usually be spelled right, and between 3-5 lines. Always."
Renrow shakes his head, "Nup. Posing tips...hmm...see, I've heard two completely contrasting views of poses. I think overall it should remain IC and only include what your char does, no power-playing."
Renrow nods as he continues, "Yeah, that's what I've heard different of. See...I tend to carry on with poses, most of them being loong 12 liners or longer, but /only/ when I'm with someone I RP with like that alot. In public, usually around, yeah, 3-5...was wondering, though, as I've heard both preferences, some say the shorter the better, and others say longer and more detailed."
Renrow changes that last bit to "About 6-9 in public, actually...but I can't help it." *shrug*
Jueann runs away from any rp'ing that's spammy so anything that scrolls my screen big time, I can't deal with. it's best to keep it easy, simple and readable.
Jueann says, "What's power-playing?"
In a caricature of Jossie, the daemon wantsa answer!
Renrow decides to speak up again, "When you include someone else in your pose, and have them actually doing something without asking them first. Like, if in a fight, you automattically include in your pose that 'the last blow was given and knocked
Renrow notices the loose example, and was in a rush at the moment...hmm...
Jennette frowns. "Power-playing is something like, "Jennette slaps Jueann. Jueann jumps back and begins to scold Jennette."
Renrow waves a hand in the air, shrugging as he's sure it got the point across.
Jueann thwaps Alexander, That was an accident from a code people didn't even know existed.
Tolin says, "I disagree with that one, Alexander."
In a caricature of Alexander, the daemon knows. Sorry. :)
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "Could someone post something though? *Ann? *Gossip? I just found out about it offhandedly on a channel.."
Tolin says, "D'thon did, on *ann"
Jueann nodsIn a caricature of Jossie, the daemon ahems...it was the main courtyard anyway ;)
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "Ah. I missed it.. what message number?"
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "Yeahh"
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "Starting RP, or RP motivation... basically, we know the *technicalities* of posing, but how to.. er.. spark RP outside of the notorious 'Klah Sipping'?"
Renrow points towards the daemon and wonders one thing..."How is that done? A channel added, or feature, oor..." *shrug*
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "If you're on the hell channel instead of actually being in hell"
In a caricature of Jossie, the daemon nodders....channel.
Renrow grins and 'ah-/hah/'s, figuring it was that...
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "Good idea. What about dances? Without spamming the heck out of everybody about your lovely motions and swirling colors.."
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "It's very annoying. Hatching and dancing rps... it really turns into more of a posing contest than fun interactive RP." Renrow hrms as it turns into more of a search-and-hunt-for-the-other's-pose for me...
Tolin nodsnods to Alexander.
Tolin has his name highlighted ;)
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "OOoh!"
In a caricature of Alexander, the daemon also wishes people at hatchlings should have an IC reason for carrying 2.5 metric tons of raw meat in their pockets. ANYhow..
Jennette laughs.
The daemon speaks in Alexander's voice, "Gathering's fun if you know people there. However, newbies are advised that Gathers work best as fuel for private RP later on with fewer crowds ('Hey, remember that weird Harper we met at Keroon?'), but is horrible for getting to actually know people."
Tolin waves.
