Although the back of the valley is now state property, to control the water supply to both windward and leeward sides of the Koolaus, access is controled and permission is needed to pass the signed gate. We DID have permission which was sought and obtained by Steve Brown the hike leader. The three signs seen on the last page and below were on the right fork gate. On the left fork gate was a sign that said "for your safety do not enter".
