Don Camani - the Bears Den

Thomas gives fans something to cheer about.

It took an overaged team with an injury list as long as the Constitution. A team that ranks 30th in the league in run defense and 22nd in rushing offense. It took a fourth quarter rally to push the Chicago Bears past the defending AFC champion Oakland Raiders.

And Bears fans will take it. A win is a win no matter how ugly it is, and this one was ugly.

Nevermind the fact that Kordell threw three interceptions and the Bears were penalized 11 times for 97 yards. The team displayed heart and after falling to a 18-3 halftime lead came back to win the ball game.

Not as much of a suprise though is the play of Anthony Thomas after four weeks. So many fans last year booed the A-train for his subpar performance and called him a fluke one year after his rookie of the year award.
In 2002 Thomas did seem to run a little hesitant and teams often keyed up on him often stacking the box. With an injury ravaged O line, he was often met in the backfield by defenders and in the process was looking to get hit and unsure.
Now that he has put that season behind him Thomas is ruuning like he did as a rookie in 01'. And to his credit he is doin it without that line and without the passing game that took the pressure of him his rookie year. So well in fact that the Bears are ranked 11th in the league in rushing offense. Thomas has 301 yards for 5.9 avg but only 1TD.

Get your head into the game

I don't know who I should be addressing this more to, McCaaskey, Angelo or Urlacher.

Is it the Chunky soup commercials or the ones for Old Spice? Or is it that bimbo Paris Hilton he's trying to show up his wife with? Could it just be he misses his huge DT Ted Washington that ate up blockers like a sack of White Castle?

Whatever it is Urlacher has been until last week looking like a bonafied chump !
