WHAT CAN I DO TO BE PRO-LIFE?
Anne Pierson and Carol Risser, of Loving and Caring Inc., wrote a book called “52 Simple Things You Can Do To Be Pro-Life”. Loving and Caring is a Christian organization in Pennsylvania that provides resources to life-affirming groups and ministries. It was developed while Anne and her husband Jim were directing the House of His Creation maternity home. Anne and Carol wrote a very inspiring introduction to their book called “A Pinch of Salt”. They state how important it is to realize the pro-life movement is more than saving unborn babies. That is a piece of a much larger whole. They say, “The term pro-life encompasses ministry to single parents struggling to raise children alone, and to the handicapped for whom life is a lonely battle. These people, all created and loved by God, are as much in need of the pro-life movement as mothers and babies.” We must value all life--from the youngest to the oldest.
Anne and Carol believe that because of this vast scope of human need, the pro-life movement can involve us all. Matthew 5:13 says, “You are the salt of the earth…” We are to influence the world for good by our deeds. We can reach out to others in our own way, using the talents God has given us. Jesus doesn’t ask us to be a whole box of salt—only a pinch of it. Here are some ideas from Anne and Carol’s book.

1. Pray! Pray! Pray for a culture of life!
2. Offer to baby-sit for a single parent or parents of a handicapped child.
3. Hold a garage sale and donate the money to a Pregnancy Care Center or another organization.
4. Wear a Precious Feet pin. These are available through Martin County Right to Life or Heritage House(click on jewelry).
5. Vote pro-life. Be informed about how our elected officials stand on life issues. Write them letters regarding specific issues. Write letters to the editor of your newspaper.
6. Visit and help the elderly. Take them to dinner, to church, offer to do their shopping, cooking and home repairs, mow their grass, and remember them on their birthday and during the holidays.
7. Collect and donate food and household supplies to local housing programs.
8. Volunteer at your local Pregnancy Care Center. There is one on Main Street in Washington, Indiana. Be a foster parent for an adoption agency.
9. Give financially to a counseling center, maternity home or other pro-life organization.
10. Mend and make clothing. Donate maternity clothes and baby items where needed.
11. Put a pro-life bumper sticker on your car! (my idea!) These are also available through Martin County Right to Life, Heritage House and Victory Won.
12. Educate yourself about life issues such as abortion, euthanasia, life before birth, and governmental legislation that will affect all of our lives.

These are just a few simple things YOU can do to make a difference. Paul Broughton of Life Cycle Books said, “As Christians, our responsibility to provide protection from injustices clearly extends to the child in the womb. Nowhere in Scripture are we instructed to show compassion by killing another person.”
Proverbs 24:10-12 says, “If you remain indifferent in time of adversity, your strength will depart from you. Rescue those who are being dragged to death…If you say, “I know not this man!” does not he who tests hearts (God) perceive it? He who guards your life knows it, and he will repay each one according to his deeds.”
In other words, don’t stand back and let them die. Don’t try to disclaim responsibility by saying you didn’t know about it. Let us respect and protect ALL life.
