temple iconagraphy
Hanuman the monkey god, probably my favorite of the Hindu deities, was born here at Haampi. The monkey temple on top of the hill, run by a baba and built by barefoot workers, with it`s bald devotees was the most spirtual of all the religious places we visted. We received the food and the dot and the chilum. This is the remnants of a Pranalinga or Sivalingum. The water moves through the bowl (prana) and drips slowly from the spout (lingum). Very very important to the local hindus True Indiana Jones here, no guide, never been elecrtified, no torch, just me and the bats. the camera saw what i could not in this ancient disused temple. The floor was made of thick stone slabs laid over a shallow ditch. the rain was funneled down into this area to a spout shaped like Ganesha
