In roughly two years time, he has gone from a hero, to a potential star, and now to an actor hoping to survive the vicissitude of fortune.
It has been one mad run.
Run, as it happens, is the name of his film scheduled for release this month.
The film, in a sense, is a make or break one for Madhavan. For, after his initial flurry of hits (AlaiPayuthey, Minnale, Dum, Dum, Dum), films like Kannathil Muthamittal Parthale Paravasam flopped badly posing a huge question mark over his career.
But Madhavan is hardly perturbed by all these speculations. The tension surrounding his career does not rankle his confidence or dim his enthusiasm. "Why should I be tensed," he asks nonchalantly. Even as he speaks, you realize that his coolenss is not a put-on.
Anyway, Run has enough elements to make him feel cool and confident about himself. It is about a man who takes on an underworld don for the sake of his love. "It is a lively movie," he says.
The film is directed by Linguswamy whose debut venture Anandam was the biggest grosser in 2001.
Apart from Run, Madhavan also has Dil Vil, Pyar, Vyar scheduled for release in Hindi in September. The film has two more heroes Sanjay suri and Jimmy Shergil.
Now, after the failure of his Hindi debut Rehna Hai Tere Dil Me (remake of Minnale), Madhavan seems to have taken his Hindi foray not too seriously. "It seems to be a jinx for Tamil actors. Even Kamal and Rajni found it hard to break," he says.
So, willynilly Madhavan is focussed on Tamil where he has to contend with the competition from the likes of Vikram, Vijay, Ajith and Sham.
But he is hoping Run would give them a run for their money.
All the best Maddy!!
