In St. Petersburg, Fla., more than 40,000 fans gathered to watch the third and final day of the ESPN X Trials competition recently. The world's best alternative sport athletes competed for a prize purse worth over $100,000 and invitations to the 2000 ESPN X Games in San Francisco. More than 250 athletes flipped and spun high above the heads of roaring crowds, which totaled 68,000 plus over the weekend. Among the winners were Bucky Lasek ,who placed first in the Skateboarding Vert final and Fabiola da Silva, who continued to dominate women's inline skating.
