Chapter 1

Taylor looked at his watch. It was exactly 7:48pm. She was meant to be here at 7, he thought to himself. Wearing his navy cords, a black shirt and his leather jacket, Taylor Hanson sat on a metal rail outside of Burger King waiting for his girlfriend Sarah. He looked at his watch again and sighed. Maybe something really important came up, I'll wait just a little while longer. Another 10 minutes past, then another 10, then another 20. Taylor looked at his watch again. 8:28pm. He sighed again and stood up. He looked all around the area to see if he could see Sarah coming, which he didn't. Feeling depressed and a little pissed off he started walking away from Burger King, down the road, and headed off back home. I can't believe she stood me up, AGAIN. He thought as he trudged along. I wonder what dumb excuse she'll think up this time. Finally Taylor arrived at his house and he walked up the driveway. He opened the front door and slammed it behind him. Isaac, who was watching the footy on the TV while scoffing down a packet off chips looked up to see his brother Taylor, ripping off his jacket and throwing it on the floor next to the coat rack.

"How was your date?" Ike asked.

"Great," Taylor answered in a really pissed off voice and heavily ran up the stairs and into his room, slamming his door behind him.

"Okay," Ike said to himself and went back to his footy. Upstairs in Taylor's room he kicked his shoes off, sat on his bed and reached over to his phone. He picked up the receiver and dialled Sarah's number. After only one ring Sarah answered the phone

"Hello?" she said.

"Where were you?" Taylor came straight out and asked.

"Excuse me? who is this?" Sarah replied sounding confused.

Taylor, shocked at the fact that she didn't even recognise his voice said "Your boyfriend, supposedly".

"Oh, Tay, hi. What's up?" she asked casually.

"Sarah, you were supposed to meet me an hour ago," Taylor told her, not in an angry voice, more like a hurt voice.

"I was?" Sarah replied, once again sounding confused.

"Yeah, you were," Taylor said.

"Oops, sorry babe," Sarah answered casually.

"I waited over an hour for you," Taylor went on.

"You did? Gee Tay, that was really sweet of you, but you shouldn't have," Sarah replied. Taylor could tell she was also eating something.

"Yeah well, I thought you would actually show up," Taylor said.

"I said I'm sorry babe, gee, what do expect me to say," she said, sounding as if she's the one who should be getting annoyed.

"I just..." Taylor started "Oh forget it. Look, we'll come pick you up around 10 tomorrow, ok?" He waited for a reply. "Sarah? " Still no reply. "SARAH!"

"Sorry, just had to get a drink," she finally answered. "Yeah, what were you saying?"

Taylor sighed and then repeated "I said, we'll pick you up around 10 tomorrow".

"For what?" Sarah asked, once again confused.

"We're all going to the Admiral Twin concert, remember?" Taylor said, getting impatient.

"Concert? Oh yeah, the concert. Sorry babe, I can't," she said, trying to sound apologetic.

"What do you mean? We bought these tickets weeks ago," Taylor asked, now confused too.

"Yeah I know, but I have this really major science assignment due in on Monday so I have to spend all tomorrow working on it," she replied. "But, you still go," she added.

In shock, Taylor asked "Well, the whole point was that we would go together. What am I supposed to do with your ticket?"

" I don't know, give it to someone else," she suggested. Each ticket had costed him $20 and he couldn't sell them to anyone else because everyone was already going, but he couldn't be bothered bringing that up. He also noticed that Sarah always seemed to have heaps of school assignment's due, a lot more than any other of his friends who went to her school. He often thinks she makes half of them up just because he and his brothers did home-schooling and he wouldn't have a clue what assignments they had to do.

"Yeah, okay," Taylor just replied.

They both sat in silence for a while until Sarah finally broke it and said, "Look, babe, I have to go".

"Okay," Taylor replied. "So I'll see you......whenever"..

"Yeah, sure, whenever, gotta go, bye," she said making a quick kissing noise and then hanging up

"Bye," Taylor said to the dead tone on the other end of the phone..
