Katherine's Sept 10 Story

Ok. so, i picked up issy at the bus station, with the cute signs and everything, we took the metro over to the venue- the Garage, found a nearby Wendy's, then ate a small dinner. then, having nothing better to do, we strolled over to the Garage and hung out outside the door. the place was so new that they were finishing painting as the bands were doing sound check.

we spoke with shocky (cool) and the lead singer of showoff (again cool, shame his band buddies are total asses). then we caught butch, jayce and slug for a moment as they were leaving the sound check to get dinner, said hey, told them we were looking forward to the show, etc (and i told them i had stuffs for them).

~4 hours pass as we sit outside and talk to various peoples~

they let us in late (first nite all that)... so we had time to chat with the doormen, 'dave' the doorman thought i looked like an undercover cop, and 'michael' the marine was being military and boring. (names are those on their shirts but not their real names). anyway, so we get it, situate ourselves nice and close to the stage, and wait. four of my friends (yes, i brought a posse to the show) came and we were dead front and center. (about my friends- Rachel and Romie didn't know bout M3 before hand, so of course they didn't understand why i love them so. however, as everyone knows, once you see the marives live you have no choice but to love them, so now they're gonna get the cds and i feel special because i've spread the marvie love, and they don't think i'm crazt. the other chicks, well, Anne knew about the marvies, saw em in the summer, and she didn't know bout the show, so she was psyched, and she dragged a friend with her, the guy from self hit on Anne and integrated her into a song and talked about wanting to suck on her toes, it was funny. they went to hang out with showoff after the show, for reasons beyond my comprehension). self went on, they were ok, cute pink fuzzy lining on their instruments. have an obsession with the word 'f*ck'. whatever (had a real cute song called 'i got a truck full of amps mother f***er' which amused me).

showoff went on (after a long time moving the other bands instruments and setting up etc) and basicaaly were bad and juvenille. not only did they spit on the audience and throw stuff, one of their people ran out into the audience and essentially shoved every one around, brutally. i was angry, as were most of the other folks.

anyway, enough about them. the marvies went on, it was a great crowd, i'd say most of the audience had both albums and knew all the words, so it was very big on audience participation. lots of fun pic throwing (caught one- thanks jayce!) lots of total misses with the tricks, they weren't totally on top of it. but they were having a great time. played grant park (anymore, anymoooooooooooooore- it's stuck in my head! love it, can't wait til the new album comes out), of course, did a little queen salute. and of course it was too much rock for one hand. they also had a plastic owl on the stage. i don't know why.

afterwards we met this chick who's known the band for aeons, so we hung with her to be 'cool' and not rush the guys. i got my math and other problems case signed, issy got a lot of stuff signed. i gave butch pecans (he didn't get the joke!) and his poem and a rewrite of a song which he said he was gonna read later to 'fully appreciate it'. i gave jayce the teeshirt i made for holden that said mini marvie, which he loved and hugged me three times for, and i gave him his poem too. he didn't read it (he has now though- i asked him on the 11th, he said it was funny). butch and jayce were in a big hurry to get to the MOBY/ rave thing in southeast (which, btw is the sketchiest area of DC). and we weren't really invited, although the techies and slug (who decided to go to sleep instead cuz he was really tired) said we should go, it's not really the safest place to be and i am a little discriminate in where i choose to go, ya know? not really into that whole drug scene. so generally, although the concert ruled and the guys were nice and we got hugs, the fact that we were expecting a little quality time made us a bit miffed. to say the least. so it didn't really end on the high note that i had hoped. but i still love them because you can't hate sweeties like them. and of course, the show on the 11th made up for it.
