Jade's October 8th Story
What can I say? Marvelous 3 ... I appauld you! I have
6 words : Too Much Rock For One Hand !!
The Georgia Theater is in downtown Athens Georgia, a
typical collage town theater..first thing ya see when
ya walk in is the bar. Anyway it was an 18 and older
show , so my dad pretended to be like a shit load of
kid's dad so they could get in (in't he great). So I
guess you have to understand the layout of the Georgia
Theater before we can continue , the GA Theater is
pretty old and small: they don't have security guards
or barriers or anything..you just lean up and put your
elbows up on the stage. I was like in dead center in
the front leaning up on the stage. than you sorta have
like a balcony. and underneath that is the bar.
Anyway The Katies and Self were the opening acts. To
sort of sum up those first two acts....hmmm..well the
Katies were good but the sound was kinda messed up-
you couldn't hear the lead singer very well until
like the last two songs. But other than the bass
player being totally wasted, I was really impressed
with the guitar player; he just was incredible on the
guitar. He played that thing like it was noooooobody's
business! I got his attention when they were leaving
the stage and he knelt down while i told him that he
played an awesome show and that i liked his led
zeppelin T-shirt.
Self was a typical collage band with the neon pink
fuzzy decor. But they were really good and put on a
good show! the lead singer reminds me of my friend
Jarrod except his hair used to be long but now it's
not. But they were awesome !!! The highlight of that
show was either "Meg Ryan" or when they lead singer
started to pull down his pants to reveal his
boxers...I can't tell which.
After self went off, there was this anticipation that
was mutual through out the crowd waiting for the
marvelous 3, you could feel it, you could smell
it...you could have damn well near tasted it! When the
local Athens radio DJ's came out and did their lil'
"i'm associated with Marvelous 3" type thing, throwing
shirts out into the crowd and saying they'd be on
soon, that's when everyone really started gettin'
ants-y, not to mention that's like when the other half
of the ticket holders showed up!! I swear right before
the Katies went on there were maybe 45 people and I
happen to glance around right before the marvelous 3
came out and It was like jam packed!! And I found
myself wondering where the hell were all these people
before ?!?!?
Oh but they teased the crowd, playing riffs and stuff
, the crowd was on it's toes enough as it was, every
time you'd hear a guitar riff being played all the
teenyboppers and shit would scream..and than no one
would come out..this happened repeatedly..I had I gag
and strangle a few of those girls :)
Than next thing you know They all come walkin out and
kick into "Your So Yesterday" which was just a perfect
song to start out with because every time I play HEY!
that's the first song I hear, it was perfect. The
Audience participation was unbeliveable..I swear, if
Butch had gotten amnesia and had forgotten the words
to the songs, the audience would have damn near
covered it!!! The thing I Love about the Marvelous 3
is that their energy generates through out the crowd
and smacks you around a couple times until you find
your self singin along and dancin to the song!!
As always Butch knew what to say to the crowd to get
them pumped for the next song which was "Over Your
Head" - which is possiably one of my favorite songs
off HEY! So that was just awesome..everyone giving
each other the bird. They absorbed everyone in there
path, of course, you'd have to be a member of the KKK
not to like it !
Than came to melodramatic "Mrs. Jackson" Which
everyone loved and sang along with- again , Too Much
Rock For One Hand !!! it was their best show they've
ever done in Athens! As Always "Let me Go" was
mindblowing.. oh but "Grant Park" was absolutly the
best, they have to put that one on the new record!! i
don't care how uptight you are..if that song doesn't
make you get up and party.. you might wanna check your
pulse because you most likely are Dead!! Just singing
along with the song gives me shivers going up and down
my spine!!
Butch started off with the classic intro to "Vampires
In Love" and nobody was gettin tired at all!!! "Write
it on Your Hand" was next which was special for me
cos' that was the most memriable song they did they
first time I saw them live back in Febuary!
Through out the show.. I noticed the picks tricks had
improved they only missed like twice..they HAVE been
practicing! Of Course when Butch started to introduce
"Appeitie" Christie and I went crazy cos we just love
it when they play their older stuff!! Just Butch's
facial expressions and showmanship was astounding!!!
He really has a talent for gettin the crowd goin' !!
But than they headed right on into "Make Up", which is
like a given; every time they play "Appetite" the next
song is always "Make Up" . So of course we loved
that!!!!!! Every Monday was KILLER!!! They played
that next and it was just amazing!! Again and the
crowd's participation!!! But I think we all knew what
was coming when they started into the intro to "Freak
Of The Week" Which was the most mind blowing,
exuberent rendition i have ever heard them do!! Which
explains why the crowd was shouting "Marvelous Three,
Marvelous Three" over and over again after they left
the stage. So finaly they came back out to suffice our
hungers!! They went into an enegized version of
"(there is) Always Something There To Remind Me" !
Which Is the BEST!! I love it when they do that song!!
It was ear-splitting how loud the crowd sang !! Again
.. Two Much Rock For One Hand!!
(somewhere in between one of the songs they did parts
of Queen's "Bohemian Rhasphody". Which was perfect,
Butch's delivery and all!!)
This Night Proves To Be One Hell Of A Concert!!! And
not only that but we got a chance to hang with the
boyz pre-show and we went home with a lotta lil
trinkets to remember the best show the Marvelous 3
has, to this day, ever done in Athens!! All and all
"TWO MUCH ROCK FOR ONE HAND" !!!!!!
