99-00 Winterguard Journal
The Current Events

11-27-99: Hey there! That's right, time for Winterguard and we're gettin ready as i type! We're entering three catigories for competition: Flags; Drill; and Novelty. The Flag team will consist of 6 girls from the whole squad. In order to be on the flag team the girls who want to be on it have to make up a 30 sec to 1 min routine and do it in front of Mr. P and Mr. Mac. The 6 girls they feel will do best will be chosen and put on the team. The drill team will consist of the whole color guard; no trying out. It's a tradition. For novelty (which is a theme routine), the girls who want to be on it will have to find a partner and swing dance in front of Mr. P and Mr. Mac. The 3 pairs that look the best will be chosen and put on the team.
For flags this year we will be doing a routine to "Runaway" by Sugar Ray; for drill we will be doing a routine to a song of "The Matrix" soundtrack; and for Novelty we will be doing a routine to "The Dirty Boogie".
We have also ordered new uniforms and i will get pix up ASAP.
Now i did say we only had three catigories...so i lied. *grin* We also have a few people doing solos in flags and military (drill). As of right now This is the roster for solos:
  • Erin- military; song: The Theme Song from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
  • Sarah- flags; song: "Angels" by Robbie Williams
Also, so far these are the competitions we are going to:
  • Canyon Springs High School
  • Burbank High School
  • Edison High School: the Beach Classic
I'll update with more as it happens...

1-6-00: Howdy all! Well it's a new year and we've started learning our winterguard drill routine. It's coming along great and everyone is having fun with it. We start 0 period next week for winterguard and ill update when more happens!

1-16-00: All three squads are now deep into learning their routines and are doing great. We're also getting geared up for our pep rally on the 2nd.

2-6-00: Well there hasn't been much to write about as things haven't been happening! Well we've actually been really busy learning and perfecting or Winterguard routines. We've finished learning both the Drill and Flag routines...Now us novelty peoples have got to get our act together and do this! *grin* It's coming along and looking good so we should have that done soon enough (hopefully!) Well the pep rally keeps getting moved around. It was supposed to be last Friday, but the Church people who used the gym lost the dang remote that pulls the stands out! grrrrr....oh well, that means...more practice! They have re-scheduled the pep rally for this thursday (the 10th) These next couple weeks are gonna be pretty busy. We have the pep rally, this Saturday is Winter Formal, then on the 19th we go to Burbank for our first competition! Wohoo!! =) I'll update after the pep rally.

2-16-00: Howdy again! We did awesome at the pep rally! If only I could put the video on this web site. It was really great and a lot of fun. The students loved us too, it's a miracle! =) Well we have a performance for our parents and friends tonight. We're gonna show them all of our WG competition routine plus the pep rally routine.
Pep Rally Routine Opening Position...hehe..those our our boys in the back *smiles*
It should be a lot of fun. Our first competition is this Saturday! *big grins* We can't wait. We're up against some pretty stiff competition so cross your fingers for us! I'll be back with news after the competition in Burbank.

2-20-00: Well the Burbank competition was yesterday. It took a whole 2 hours to drive there. What a ride! =) But it was sooooooo much fun! And we took first place in flags against 17 other squads! *big smiles* Well here are the official scores and such for the squads.
  • Drill- 6th place with a score of 78 against the following schools
    1. University
    2. North Hollywood "A"
    3. North Hollywood "B"
    4. Morse
    5. Eagle Rock
    6. Franklin
  • Flag- 1st place with a score of 91.5 against the following schools
    1. Camarillo
    2. Quartz Hill
    3. North Hollywood
    4. Monroe
    5. Canyon
  • Novelty- 5th place with a score of (I think) 86 against the following schools
    1. Westlake
    2. Lompoc
    3. Quartz Hill
    4. El Toro
    5. Antelope Valley
    6. Tustin
    7. Canyon
I also took some pix and will try to get them developed soon. I will also have a pic the flag squad and their 1st place trophy. It was sooooo much fun! I'll update after the Canyon Springs High School Competition next week.

2-28-00: Hey all! Well we took two first place trophies with a score of 87.5 in drill and 89 in flags. Hopefully the next competition will be better! I'll be taking pics at Glendora on March 18th. I'll report back with details after that.

3-21-00: Hey-lo there! The Glendora competition was tons of fun! We had a really fun time performing. Although there were little imperfections in the flag routine we still place 2nd out of 8 with a score of 78. The novelty team scored a 71 and got 7th place out of 8 (we've got a low budget routine). And, oddly enough, the team that beat us in the flag division was Burbank (the school where we placed 1st outta 17 other teams). We've got a couple more weeks until our Edison Beach Classic so we're starting to get ready for that. I'll be back soon with pix from the Glendora comp and info on how Edison goes.

4-6-00: Hey-lo there all! Well The Edison Beach classic was last Saturday (the first) and we ended up taking home two 2nd place trophies. Good job guys! Sadly, that was our last winterguard competition of the year =(. but tryouts are coming in the next month so i will be back with more info on that.

5-6-00: Well tryouts were yesterday. it was a bunch of fun! I guess that concludes this years Winter Guard Journal. Stick around for next year: info on the new squad, bandcamp stuff, fieldshow, and upcoming competitions. Thanks for stopping by!
