"Death " here has four different meanings:

Physical death -- this is when the soul is separated from the body Spiritual death -- this is when a person is physically alive but separated from God Eternal death -- this is what a person experiences when they die having never trusted in Christ for salvation Death-like existence -- this is a Christian feels when sin has interrupted his/her fellowship with God
