~ A curious question; there is no answer unfortunately. Tis a secret that the Red Queen took to her grave. As we all know, it was definitely not the Lord Gatekeeper who made a bid to be the Queen's consort but was rejected. And he was bitterly disappointed about it... his plans all ruined (at least until he could come up with something more devious). But his maniacal bid for power and attention seems to be part of his basic psychology; I suspect that it was his eldest brother whom first caught the eye and the fancy of Dragon's mother; a solid, honest and loving lad with the sensitivity needed to woo such a whimsical creature. A lad who in our world would have been constantly taunted by the populace's doubts on his sexual alignment. It's a solid explanation; a middle child with a superiority complex poisons his sweet and guileless brother, acts as the comforter and confident to the grieving queen in her vulnerable state and is rewarded slowly but surely but just on the eave of all his ambitions coming into fruitition - alas the fickle heart of a woman betrays him and there is no alternative to murder her family to obtain his TRUE heart's desires.

~ a). They're all STARS (ooh how positively delightful) but if you don't read books or watch movies you've probably never heard of them before.
~ b) The Penguin enters this sordid score on account of his black coat. As Garry Oldman is a possible potentional for Sirius Black in Harry Potter 3 he has black curly hair, just like our lovely Brydda. Not only this but Sirius Black turns into a Black Dog and WHAT is Brydda's scary Seditioner name? THE BLACK DOG!!!!

~ There is at least four different bathrooms - one for the guests - wasn't Jakoby or Bruna getting cleaned up/having a bath whilst staying at Obernewtyn in the Keeping Place, one in the Teknoguilder caves, one on the farms and one for the main Obernewtyn house. I imagine they would be quite large given the size of Obernewtyn's population and that they have a bath roster accordingly. There is also the possibility of informal bathing with a large tub and pouring hot water in any tiled area.
However, I like to think that they don't have any toilets. They just pee out the windows. **gets an image of Elspeth's rear end sticking out the window** I wonder what the Rebels will think about her dignity now?
They probably reuse their own faeces as manure for the farms, just as they did in the Chinese mountains (Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress)
As the daughter of a Civil, Environmental and Waste Engineer, I feel it is my duty to point out the fundamental flaws in Obernewtyn's Waste-Management Policies. Given the exponential rise of Obernewtyn's population and the limited land resources available to them, their current legislation dealing with sewrage and other household wastes is ill-equipped to proved a sustainable and enjoyable environment in the near future. The level of natural phosphates and foecal choliforms in the soils have reached an intolerable level and if immediate changes are not made there may be damage to the next seasons crop yield.
It is the duty of the Teknoguild to stop all research in the past and focus their resources on advancing the plumbing and water treatment of used water in the region which my sources have informed me, are sub-standard. Waste products flowing from mountain estuaries through Obernewtyn are reaching a critical stage of pollution and the Guanette Streamwatch has reported alarming rises in nitrogen contents unprecedented in the Community's long history on eco-conservation. If these levels continue to use then there is a strong probability that we will see algal blooms as far down the Suggredorn as the city of Tor. My calculations indicate that in the next fifty years severe losses to biological populations due to BDO levels as far south as Rangorn if this problem is allowed to continue.
Dumping in the Blacklands or in the Mountains is an unacceptable practice if we hope for a recession in the area of tainted ground in the next few generations. Nothing should be done to disturb the fragile state of regeneration in these areas.
I therefore submit that the Teknoguilders upgrade their water-recycling treatment plants to a tertiary level of filtration with effective flocculation in the standing reservoirs, add effective flushing toilets with appropriate outlets, and add flurine to the drinking water so all the residents of Obernewtyn can have strong teeth for eating carrots in their strictly vegetarian diet.

~ Tuna. All dolphins are lovingly and carefully removed from the nets. The horses are currently vetoing the Annual Tuna-Fish Slap Festival and demanding that Sadorians come to their senses and become vegans like the rest of the socially-conscious world.

~ I am interpreting this at the 4th tallest mountain ranges as the Ken Agyllian Eyrie would probably consist of the tallest mountains. 1st = Ken Agyillian 2nd= Obernewtyn Mountain Ranges 3rd= Aran Craggie and Tor (if you refer to your maps available in all good Penguin Additions of the Obernewtyn Chronicles you will note that while Aran Craggie is skinnier than Tor, they are both the same height) 4th= The little known ranges hosting the beautiful Emerelfel (a stunning luscious green area full of waterfalls that we have yet to visit unfortunately - but fell free to note it as a worthwhile tourist destination in the next Expedition)

~ Maruman is clearly a Capricorn - and more particularly born on January 12th on the day of the Wild Call. According to The Birthday Book. Maruman has a dictatorial and dominant personality, sometimes feel ing the urge to relinquish positions of authority for greater freedom and may grow tired of directing others. (Note Elspeth¡¦s horror when discovering Atthis was pushing Maruman beyond his limits in order to fulfil his destiny) However, those of January 12 enthusiastically follow their calling but are cautious and practical when necessary, particularly in their private lives. Maruman's tarot card is The Hanged Man. Though the position og the hanged Man is helpless he is nethertheless spiritually powerful and deep-thinking. Those born on January 12 are likely to ignore the health with skin conditions a particular problems. Note how Atthis waits until Elspeth is at death's door before reaching out to her and teaching her to heal herself. She also chooses to reveal information to Elspeth through Maruman. Virgo's have a tendency to take things literally. The future is the primary focus of the Virgo and while it is not as dreamy as some star signs they are analytical and assessing in order to contribute to the greater good. Ah yes. Now that I study the star charts more closely it seems that Atthis may very well have been born on September 6th - The Day of the Unpredictable Fate who must have advised Atthis at a young age to Learnt to work with Fate. It is neither your enemy nor your friend but can become an accept companion. Don't be afraid to take the iniative. Build solidly and let go of some of your cherished illusions. Thinking and Speaking are powerfully predictive actions. There is however a warning for those of September 6 in relation to self-fulfilling prophecies. They must be aware that the power of their words are not only over their own lives but also over the lives of others.

~ Definitely meat-eater. None of this tree-hugging hippy crap. It's meat, blood and sensible protein alround so that he can get through a busy day of coersive manipulation. This fascination with meat may even explain why Ariel is such a sadistic maniac when it comes to setting the wolves on people. Aside from having a slight case of Mr Burns Complex, Ariel is a closet cannibal. Just look at all his possible professions; Hunter of Escaped Misfits who are never seen again, Beloved of Henry Druid (historically speaking, the druids were in to a little human sacrifice) , The Slave Trade - Caribbean Cruise with Varied Buffet and of course the Herder Faction where a veritable barbeque can be obtained at minimal coast. There is definitely an alarming pattern emerging.

~ Why else would a potential claimate to the property of Obernewtyn be in the barn??? There's hay to be moved, animals to be fed and above all, a pretty little damsel in distress who needs to be stalked- I mean talked to **coughs into hand -Cradle Snatcher**

Clare: It's just so tragic! **sniffs dramatically** Childhood is stolen away from them, the hardships of adulthood thrust upon such a young girl at such an early stage.

~ Never! What if the Salamander locks him up in a really tall tower and the only way Gilaine can save him is if she goes up to the tower and calls out.. 'Daffyd, Dafyyd let down your Not-Quite Golden Hair' Had he cut his hair to be the Spikey Revolutionary in Dameon's boy band Gilaine would never be able to rescue him from the evil clutches of the nasty Salamander and he'd be doomed to live out his days singing!
16. Who is the Destroyer?
~ I know it's not plausible to say that Matthew is the Destroyer especially when he is not Elspeth's equal but I haven't really sat down and thought about the intricacies of it all. If Matthew was the Destroyer and Elspeth had to kill him to stop him from starting up the Entina I'd be well pleased. He is, after all, conveniently placed in the Land of the Red Queen in time for the last book with a slave uprising brewing on the horizon and has an unreliable fascination with the Beforetime. Dameon has warned him against the dangers of digging up the past and Elspeth felt the chill of a prophecy all those years ago when they were chatting on the farm in the first book. Maybe that chill was in reference to Elspeth's own connection with the past and her Quest but if Matthew were to be the Destroyer it would satisfy my fondness for tragic and miserable endings.

~ Wren, but he didn’t think it was butch enough for the Gypsy D’rekta. (I don’t think Swallow is much of an improvement, he would have been better off with Eagle, or Hawk, but as long as he’s happy, what right do I have to complain.)

~ A guy called Reginald von Baronson, whom the Red Queen met in a nightclub in a lonely backstreet of her country. It was not a one night stand, it was beautiful and romantic nine week romance. But alas, glorious as it was, it was never meant to be, for the Red Queen realised her true duty was to her country and her people. Reggie now owns a successful fashion-design business.

~ All three are tipped to play Sirius Black in the third Harry Potter film. (My money is on Brydda!!!)

~ Gevan usually manages twelve steins full of mead, and can usually only be surpassed by Alad, who once threw down seventeen, before he shouted “I’m a capsicum” and passed out.
However, if the table Gevan is drinking at is in Sutrium, he has to drink fourteen before under the table. (This is because tables are lower there, and he needs to be drunker before he can successfully slide out of his chair and underneath)

~ Including the Healer Hall, there are a total of 103 rooms in the Obernewtyn Main House. However, there are only 6 bathrooms, which is why Elspeth can’t be bothered to brush her teeth.

~ Swordfish. When they’ve been eaten, the “swords” are cut off and used in one of the Battlegames, where contestant must perform a sort of Highland dance.

~ The barn is actually a secret spy room, and he was using it to spy on Kella through hidden cameras, to make sure that she wasn’t planning a revolt against his authority. (He suspects her because she once stood on his toe: a deliberate act of insubordination, he believes)

~ He will discover a strange and mystical porthole, which will lead him into Maryon’s dreamtrails. She will get him out again by drinking a magical bottle of “Matthew Mixture” which will take his personality from her dreams and make him materialise in corporeal form (but sadly only 3 inches tall)
15. Do you think Daffyd would do well to get a haircut?
No! He should let his hair keep growing until it goes past his toes, in case he ever gets locked in a tall tower, and Gilaine has to climb up his hair to rescue him. (You must always be prepared for EVERY eventuality)

Elspeth, as the entire story is only going on in her own mind, as she is actually a present-day bus driver with an over-active imagination.
