Slot 1

Crowbar
It may look the same, but this is not the all powerful corwbar from Half-Life. It has been slowed down and weakened. It is useful though, in tight areas against soldiers or demomen because they will kill themselves if they shoot at you that close.
Medkit
This is only used by the Medic.
The medkit is used to help your team heal faster. When you point the medkit at one of your teammates on the bottom lefthand corner of your screen their health and armor will be displayed. You can also give your teammates a health level boost. Unfortunatly it will fall gradually back to its normal level. You are also able to infect the other team. Unless they are cured by their own medic they will eventually die. If they come in contact with thier teammates then that teammate will become infected. As an added bonus of being a medic the medkit will heal you everytime you are hurt, but the healing process is gradual.
Knife
This is only used by the Spy.
The knife can be considered one of the most deadliest weapon. If you strike a unit with limited armor they will fall in one blow. The only drawback is you have to get up right next to the enemy.
Wrench
This is only used by the Engineer.
The wrench it self is not really a weapon. It can be used to give your teammates armor though. The main purpose of it is to upgrade and upkeep your sentry gun and dispenser. Hit your sentry gun or dispenser with the wrench and a menu will apear. From there you can do what you want given your options. For building when you have the wrench out there will be a display of how much metal you have.
Slot 2

Single-Barrel Shotgun
Many of the units carry this weapon but it's not all that powerful. You will have to get close to the enemy in order for it to work effectively. The good thing about it is that is shoots quickly but it only holds 8 shells at a time.
Sniper Rifle
This is only used by the Sniper.
If used correctly, this weapon can take out any unit from a far off distance with only one shot. By holding down your primary fire button a red dot will apear on your cross hairs. Depending on the speed of the server and the amount of lag, the red light will fall behing your cross hairs. This often makes it difficult to be a sniper. As a warning, everyone can also see the red dot because it is rather big (see picture to right). If you hold it down the bullet becomes stronger (the light will become a more intense red), but when you move you will move very slowly. It should only take 5 seconds to charge before being able to blow away a HW guy. Your shot will usually end up where the red dot is. Pressing your special skill button while holding this weapon will put you in a zoom mode. This is quite usefull for taking out far off targets.
Railgun
This is only used by the Engineer.
It shoots out a slow moving green bolt. This green bolt weakens the armor of the player that it hits. After only a few hits from the rail gun they will be out of armor and have medium life left. After that your team can take them out. This weapon is usually only used when you have no other choice.
Tranquilizer Gun
This is only used by the Spy.
This weapon can be very annoying to any player that is affected by it. The dart that the gun shoots out travels slowly, but if hit, the player will dramaticly slow down. It will last long enough for you to get away. Becarful though, this weapon only slows down the unit, it will not hurt them. I don't know what happens if you keep shootin the same unit with the tranquilizer gun. Maybe you should experiment with it.
Slot 3

Double-Barrel Shotgun
This is the most widely used backup weapon in the game. It will shoot 8 times before loading and holds 16 shells. In battles indoors, this weapon is handy in that it is powerful and acurate. Even at far distances this weapon can hit its mark. It won't do as much damage but you can still weaken him.
Auto Rifle
This is only used by the Sniper.
This is the Sniper's backup weapon. It uses the same bullets as the Sniper Rifle but shoots at a very quick rate. Even with its quick firing rate, this weapon does minimal damage. This is mainly used when the Sniper is confronted by an enemy player. Sometimes it's better to use your Sniper Rifle and blow them away. The only draw back to that is that your open for attack.
Slot 4

Nailgun
The nailgun can be best used by running around your enemy shoothing them. It will make it harder for them to get off a shot at you. You should only attack a enemy with minimal armor, like 50, so you will be able to kill them. If it's someone with more, you can either run or get backup.
Super Nailgun
This is only used by the Medic.
This is like the Nailgun but shoots at double the speed. This will allow you to kill enemies faster.
Grenade Launcher
This is only used by the Demoman.
This is a very useful weapon. It shoots out blue grenades that explode, on contact, any unit it hits. Also if they don't hit anything they will explode after a cirtain amount of time, about 4-6 seconds. This is good for head to head fights with the enemy. If you hit them with it or they run by one that explodes, they will be hurting. Do watch out though for the ones that haven't exploded, you don't want to run by one.
Flamethrower
This is only used by the Pyro.
This weapon is good for cutting down visibility and weakening the enemy. The unit it hits will be set on fire and their life will drain untill the fire goes out, about 10 seconds. If, while still on fire, the unit runs backward they will only be able to see flames. The only way for them to see you is if they keep running at you, but their life will still be draining. If you keep hitting them with the flamethrower, the will die.
Slot 5

Rocket Launcher

This is only used by the Soldier.
This is a familiar weapon from Half-Life. The only thing that differs is that it has no lazer guidence. It holds 4 rockets at one time before you have to reload. Where you shoot the rocket is where it will end up. This is good for taking out Snipers. When you shoot the rocket at them they will only see the white cloud comming at them. They will usually get away but if you shoot all 4 rockets, you should be able to hit them. There is also a way to jump higher (refer to tips section).
Pipebomb Launcher

This is only used by the Demoman.
This weapon takes some thinking to use. It holds 6 pipebombs at a time. They green in color. You will be able to shoot off 8 pipebombs before the first explodes. Put it in a place with trafic and when an enemy walks over it, press the special skill button. If you wait too long before exploding them they will expload one by one because they have a time limit. Another thing you should know is that when you die all the pipebombs that are out will explode.
Assault Cannon
This is only used by the Heavy Weapons Guy.
This is the most powerful weapon in the game. It will shoot off 200 rounds before you have to get more ammo. It shoots off at an insane rate and can mow down anyone. It's not very accurate but because it shoots so many bullets it doesn't have to aim.
Incendiary Cannon

This is used only by the Pyro.
This looks much like the Rocket Launcher. When you shoot the rocket it leaves a red trail. Then it gives off a small explosion. The difference is that if there is a unit by the blast that unit will catch on fire. Another thing is that it has 20 rockets and you don't have to reload, you can just keep shooting till you run out.
