Communication 07/03/99
What am I talking about:
I just tried Roger Wilco while playing TFC. It's great. There is a little bit of lag, and voices are lower but other than that it's cool. You talk over the internet. All you really need is a head-set or a microphone. You press and hold down the transmit button and talk. It's that simple. As an added bonus, it's FREE. You don't have to pay for anything. This will give you the edge with your friends when you're on the same team, or you can laugh in their face while you kill them. Try it your self and spread the word.
How do you get it:
Just click this button and download it. After that, install it and regester. It's FREE.

Binding Keys 07/01/99
What this is:
Make sure you go into the Console to do this
Binding Det Pack times:
Binding Messages: The first one will dispaly: message to everyone
this is so when you press a key, like x it will do the disired thing. For example you want to be able to set a 5, 10, or 50 second det pack but you only have the key for the 5 second one. By binding a key, you can have one for each, or you can have keys that say cirtain messages.
For your convenience i will use different colors to mean different things. The Magenta color will mean the key that you want to use, I will use x y z. The Lime color will mean the message you want.
bind x +det5
bind y +det20
bind z +det50
These will be example messages
bind x "say message to everyone"
bind y "say_team message to team"
The second one will display to your team: message to team
Explosive & Concussion Jumping 06/28/99
Types:
This is used to get to high places or move forward faster. The best known form is the Rocket Jump. You can also do a Pipebomb Jump or a Concossion Jump.
Rocket Jumping:
This is where a Solider points his rocket launcher strait down, jumps up then almost immediately after, fires of one of his rockets. This is used to jump onto high ledges that normally one can’t get to. The best way to do this is press forward, then point your rocket launcher down, press the jump button and then right after press the fire button. This will launch you at an angle that will send you up and forward. Be careful, doing this wrong may cost you your life. As a warning, you will lose some armor and life when you do this.
Pipebomb Jumping:
This one is a good way to practice a jump with other explosives. Launch one of your pipebombs around the area you want to jump over. Now run at it and jump over and in front of it in the direction you desire. When you reach the height of your jump, explode the pipebomb. This is probably the most controlled way of jumping. You can also use the Grenade launcher, but you have to time it just right.
Concussion Jumping:
This is the one that will shoot you the farthest with the least damage. I have jumped with this from one of the roofs on the Well, to the other roof, very cool. This is useful once you learn how to do it. First release one of your concussion grenades in an open area. Then you must time it right to jump in the direction you want in the blast radius. Think of it this way, it explodes in a circle, the farther away from the center of the explosion, the farther you will be blasted, but you must be in the circle. By jumping before the blast you will be sent upward and hence, farther. The only drawback from this is that you will be dizzy when you land, but still have most of your life and armor.
Don't Use These:
It's just a bad idea to use these becaues there is a really good chance you will die, and if you survive, you won't be shot very far.
Caltrops, Nail Grenade, MIRV Grenade, Napalm Grenade, Hellucination Grenade, and the EMP Grenade.
Priming Grenades 06/25/99
Mastering it:
This can be a useful skill if used properly. The trick is to hold onto the grenade just long enough so it will not hurt you but explode closer to you. This makes it so that the enemy won’t have time to get away. Each computer and Internet speed is different for each player. On my computer I can hold the grenade for 4 seconds and let it go. You should experiment and know how long you need to hold it. Okay, here’s what you do, hold and press down on one of the grenade release buttons. Count out load or in your head so you don’t kill yourself. When you reach the time that is desired, let go. When you get good at this you will be able to let it go so that you can make the grenade explode right at the time it reaches your target.
Avoiding them:
This is hard to do. You can usually get away from it if the person is careless or you just get lucky. If you notice, when you press the grenade button there is a click sound. Listen for this when fighting. If you hear it try to look who is around you. You can run, prime your own grenade, or pray for your life to be spared. Sorry that this isn’t much help but the point of priming a grenade is so that the enemy can’t avoid it.
Spies 06/22/99
Blending In:
This can sometimes take a while to learn. First you must learn what class to change into. Think about this one, it may determine whether you live or die. Think about where you’re going to go in the enemy base, the rout you will take, what your mission is. You don’t have to capture the flag. You can go on missions to take out sentries, kill snipers, or have fun with you hallucination grenades. It is a bad idea to go back as the same class if you have been killed. Choose a different rout each time and try to pretend you are doing something useful. Standing around will often get you caught. Look out for sentries before you strike.Changing color at the right time can save you armor. Changing under water or in a secluded spot is the best place. If you change in your base and they shoot at you, your armor will probably be gone. I’m not going to help you with feigning your death. You can figure that out on your own. I don’t find much use for it, but if you do, then good for you. Remember: Know the enemy, Be the enemy
Picking out Spies:
There are different methods to finding a spy. It seems the favorite is the Paranoia style. This is where you shoot people and see if blood draws. I believe that this should be used only when the unit doesn’t stop. Another way is that when a unit stops, point your crosshairs at them and their name will appear at the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. You can press tab is you don’t know who’s on your team. If someone starts to look at your sentry, you should blow them away before your sentry is gone. If a unit begins to through hand grenades around kill him. Also, if a unit begins to start to stare at the flag while you’re in the room, you guessed it, KILL. Of course if the unit does NOT draw blood when you shoot, STOP. I don't know if this will work for you, but this is what I saw. I killed a spy and his body was on the ground. Moments later it turned into a blue (the color I was) Heavy Weapons Guy. So I waited for a HW guy to come, and I killed him. Sure enough, it was the spy. HA HA! This is probably a bug, so use it while you still can.
Sentry Guns 06/19/99
Building & Positioning:
You should put sentry guns in areas that get a lot of traffic. One thing that you must know is that your sentry gun will be destroyed. Try to put it in a place that the enemy wouldn't expect it. Try to make sure that it can see without obstructions. Remember that you can rotate them. Build it close to a ledge and then rotate it. Try not to put it in the same place when it's destroyed. You can put it in the same area though.
Destroying them:
No matter where the sentry gun is, it can be distroyed. Usually an MIRV will do the trick even though it's not up next to the sentry. Know where the enemy sentries are. Bounce your grenades off walls or find another way behind the sentry. Remember that it can only see you from so far and that it won't shoot unless it can see you.
Advanced Tactics:
Help your teammates by repairing their armor. To do this you have to get out your Wrench and hit them with it. Be careful thought, some people will shoot at you because they think you are attacking them. Help fellow engineers with their Sentry. You can do this by walking up to their Sentry and hitting it with your Wrench. The menu will appear and hit the 2 button to upgrade it. You can also repair and add ammunition to it. The best advice I can give to you is this. Have you ever built a Sentry and while your waiting someone kills you? Well, there is a way to avoid this. You are able to stop building your Sentry. How you ask. Well just hit your Special Skill button (the one used to build) and you will stop building. This has saved me many times.
