The Wraith is the Terrans' base air attack unit. Used in force, it offers a viable alternative to ground-based attacks. This may not seem prohibitive, but amassing a fleet of Wraiths can drain you quickly of the Vespene you need for other purposes. Try to ensure a solid Vespene supply before you build up a fleet.

Wraiths are expensive, but nice to have.

The Wraith may be a basic unit, but it has the impressive ability to cloak (when researched) in battle. Of course, cloaking is of little user near enemy detector units such as Missile Turrets or Spore Colonies. But when the Wraith is hunting down enemy Transports or strafing advancing ground troops, it's usefulness is unsurpassed.

Cloaked Wraiths can do some very serious damage to unsuspecting enemy units.

When assaulting an enemy position, the Wraith provides excellent air cover for Marines, Siege Tanks, and even Battlecrusiers. If the enemy starts throwing air units at your strike force, cloak your Wraiths and take them out. Even if a nearby detector renders its Cloak ineffective, the Wraith's covering ability is second to none in the Terran forces.

Background

Role: Space Superiority Fighter

Armament: Gemini Air-to-Air Missiles 25mm Burst Laser

The versatile one-man Wraith fighters are a new addition to the Colonial space forces. Traditionally, most space battles took place between large capital ships and smaller gunships, but Tarsonian technicians found that small, dynamic high-speed fighters could repeatedly deal damage to large ships while still evading most defensive battery attacks. The Wraith is the newest of these space superiority fighters, and is armed with not only air-to-air missiles, but also utilizes a belly-mounted burst laser for ground attacks.

Ability: Cloaked Field

The new CF/A-17G Wraith features a built-in cloaking field which runs off of the fighter's main power supply. When active, the cloaking field hides the Wraith from enemy view. This has proven invaluable in both base defense and strike operations.
