Drew Barrymore and Robbie Williams are in love and it's all thanks to Alcoholics Annoymous.
The pair met at an AA meeting in Los Angeles. "At the meeting, Robbie was talking about his personal struggles, and it really touched Drew," reveals a source close to Robbie. "She saw what a sensitive, warm person he really is.
Afterwards they had coffee and realised how much they had in common - they spoke for hours. It looks like they've both found love." Since then the pair have been seen in several LA nightclubs.
The couple seem to have a lot in common - both have had well-publicised battles with alcohol and drugs, and both have been unlucky in love.
Robbie has been proving a shoulder to cry on since Drew split up from husband Tom Green just five months ago when Tom filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. It was Drew's second failed marriage - her first with bartender Jeremy Thomas, lasted 19 days. Drew joked: "My track record for marriages is going to suck now. But I don't care. I only care about my personal happiness."
Despite putting on a brave face, friends of the child star say they are concerned for her well being. She has been depressed since the split, and their are fears, perhaps justified, following her visit to the AA meeting, that she has taken up drink and drugs again.
Robbie, too, has been having a difficult few months. Currently based in LA, the singer has been going to daily meetings of AA, saying, "I've been depressed and find it difficult to cope. The AA meetings are the only things keeping me going. Los Angeles is an easier place to be sober than London." Robbie was only recently pictured hugging fellow members of AA outside the Cresent Heights Methodist Church in Hollywood.
The UK singer has had a problem with alohol and drugs since leaving Take That in 1995. "At first there was an endless amount of money and drugs and my body went, 'We can deal with this, because you are young'", he says of his drug addiciton. "All of a sudden it goes 'STOP!' and you say, 'I don't know how to, sorry'. Then your body gives up. In a perfect world I'd never take drink or drugs again, but I have an illness."
As a result of his problems, Robbie announced he was taking a year off after his recent Australian tour. He said at the time "I know that I'm nothing. I'm really baffled and confused on a daily basis. I need to stop doing this for a while. I'm really bored with Robbie.... I'm going to kill him off. I'm everywhere. It must be really boring for people." Robbie has also been unlucky in love. He's had a string of high-profile relationships with women including actress Anna Friel, Geri Halliwell, an engagement to All Saints singer Nicole Appleton - and most recently he has been linked to Nicole Kidman.
But, despite the sheer quantity of his conquests, he says he has never been in love.
Drew, on the other hand, seems to fall in love to easily. She lost her virginity, just before her 14th birthday and three years later moved in with Beverly Hills 902010 star Jamie Walters. At 19, she married bar owner Jeremy Thomas, after a six week romance, but split six weeks later, with Drew saying, "I hate him".
A year later she fell in love with Eric Erlandson, bassist with Courtney Love's band, Hole, saying "I've never met anyone I feel so comfortable with."
In the same year, she was cited in Val Kilmer's divorce suit.
Then a year later, she was at it again, gushing how she had fallen in love with Gwyneth Paltrow's current boyfriend, Luke Wilson: "the greatest person I've ever met. I love him."
It came as little surprise when she hooked up with Saving Private Ryan star Jeremy Davis not too long after. And then came her next crushing relationship failure, with Tom Green.
Perhaps with Robbie, she has finally met her match.
