The Jewel ,of South Jordan is Petra,the Unique 2,000yr old rock carved city,Petra is always breathtaking It flourished for over 400 years around the time of Rome and Christ,Until it was occupied by the Roman legions of the Emperor Trajan in 106 AD.
Visiting Petra starts with a Journey, on horseback,horse-drawn carriage or by foot,into the mountain-ringed city along the SIQ.a winding,one kilometer long fissure through the surrounding and over hanging cliffs. Petras ruins consists of about 750 monuments,most of them dating from the second half of the first century B.C.to the second century after Christ.Many ruins of Roman construction may be seen at Petra: a triumphal arch,an amphitheater,remains of baths,temples,tombs,and sections of a road.Above the city is the Great High place,containing sacrificial altars hewn from the solid rock.Such open sanctuaries have thrown light on the High places mentioned in the Old Testament.Petra also ,Sela,or Joktheel: Judges1:36,2Kings14:7,Isaiah16:1.
