I would definetley say that I have people to thank for introducing me to Dave Matthews. Chances are the first would be Jordan, my sister's friend. I remember thinking she was so crazy in her music tastes in grade eight... And I guess I still sort of think that, because as I've grown musically she's become even more eccentric (in general). But she's still a super girl. Then I would have to thank Mere, as she bought the first Dave Matthews I ever really listened to. I remember hating them in grade nine, I guess his voice (which, as most people know, is very distinctive) really bugged me... And I just wasn't used to that sort of music. I mean, as a child I had other-world influences like Paul Simon (I would say that, in a way, some of Paul Simon's work sounds like Dave Matthews... or maybe I should reform that sentence the other way 'round) but I sorted Paul Simon and other artists as such in a different section of my music-appreciation, that is, music associated with my parents. But Dave Matthews was definetley something else. I got the most exposure to that on the March Break of 2000 when we went to Attitash in New Hampshire (for skiing) and me, my Da and Mere constantly listened to tapes of "Crash" and "Under the Table and Dreaming". My next person in the long run of Dave Matthews obsession would definetley be Hoff. Or perhaps Hoff and Bob as a team, even though Bob was never a huge Dave fan himself. Hoff brought Dave to parties. Hoff made being a Dave fan cool.
The last person would definetley be Sara. I'm not even sure how I could say that she brought a new level to my Dave-appreciation, but I would definetley say she's one of the people to thank. She quizzed me on lyrics. She inspired me to get Crash for my birthday (as the tape we used in Attitash was totally fried by this point). I think, in a way, it was her that helped me not taint Dave Matthews to anyone but myself (save for "Everyday" which has Sara written all over it- enough to make me cry when I'm really missing her). So that's my condensed history of Dave Matthews Band... Man, isn't it quality?
........she comes to me, i watch her drink, i watch her comb her hair...
