Ant Species

Queen and Male Ants

The queen ant rubs it's wings off after being fertilized. She then digs a hole in the ground or goes to another colony without a queen and lays eggs there. She is larger than her workers. The workers take care of,defend, and feed their queen.

The male ants dont live long The male ants only have two things to do in life. That is to eat food and fertilize the queens. After fertilization the males die.

Harvester Ants

These ants do just what there name tells them to do. They harvest on seeds. The large-headed workers tear seeds open, and take the outer part (hull) off. They mix the inside of the seed and mix it with their saliva. This makes something called ant bread. These ants are usually the ones you put in ant farms. They live in dry lands like the desert. The are a type of red ant and have sharp mandibles(teeth) and a sting that some people are allergic to.

Honeypot Ants
