Subject: Coricidin--what happened to me???

So, originally I stayed away from it due to the antihistamine content,
but since so many others seemed to be successful I thought I'd give it
a whirl.

I took five pills, each containing 30mg dxm and 4mg chlorpheniramine
maleate. For me this is 2.5mg dxm/kg body weight.

The dxm trip was about what I expected, only a little more "heady", if
you know what I mean, but all in all, pleasant. Everything was
fine...until I went to sleep.

I had taken the pills around 4:30pm and went to bed at about 12:30am.
I couldn't really sleep--I felt a little restless. But seeing as I had
slept fifteen hours the previous night, this was normal. I went in and
out of consciousness, yet an underlying stream of consciousness seemed
to prevail. Here's when it happens.

At about 4:50am, just over twelve hours after ingestion, I'm am
suddenly _completely_ conscious, and my heart is beating extremely
rapidly. I calm myself down and get my heartbeat back to normal--not a
problem. I lie there wondering what just happen, falling back to sleep
almost, when again I am suddenly *very* awake, which makes my heart
want to beat faster. This happened several times during which my heart
ceased to beat faster at each occurance (as it was becoming
"expected").

The only way I can really describe it is this: usually a sound would
trigger it, one which I would hear out of the corner of my
consciousness, but then would, for seemingly no reason, infiltrate my
consciousness and be the one thing I was focused on, even if I had
been almost completely asleep. Sounds would almost force me to listen
to them. After they became the center of my focus, I would realize
that I had heard the sound, if only semi-consciously, for awhile.

This feeling infiltrated not only my consciousness but also my
body--the two like to follow each other. What happened? Has anyone
else experienced similar reactions to coricidin? How long before the
antihistamine is out of your system.

I'm going to give my body a while to flush itself out, and then I'm
going to try again, with four pills. I'll keep you posted as to what
happens.

I have experienced some similar things that you have on coricidin. I
usually take 10 tablets, with about 5 days between trips. Every time I
have taken them though I feel tired after 6-7 hours and I lay down and
then feel restless as if I couldn't sleep no matter how tired I was. This
goes away if I stop thinking about it and I pass out in the middle of a
thought. When I wake up, my head feels like it would float away if not
attatched to my body(I know what you mean by 'heady'). This lasts the
rest of the day and is generally pleasant and makes me want to get things
done and solve problems and that kind of thing.....strange, because I'm
generally a very lazy person.

I've never stayed awake as long into the trip as you have, but the fading
in and out of consciousness pertained to LIGHT rather than SOUND to me. I
felt compelled to look at patterns of light with a distorted crawling of
time. Also, I get very HOT in the face and tops of my arms, and then
don't notice it the next second.
