Bigger carb hey? I always thought put a bigger carb on more power! Ya right! Unless you are running serious mods(porting pipe big bore etc.) a bigger carb is a waste of time money and power! After much dicking around I have found the stock carb, when jetted properly, to be smoother more power full and have mmore bottome and than the larger carbs I have had experience with. My machine now simply runs a modified K&N set up and a DG pipe and with the large carb I was very un happy with the low end power! It was very poor to say the least! It was only a 37mm carb too only 5mm bigger than stock! Even before when I was running mild porting and chambering It wasnt worth the extra little top end! Unless all you do is run full open all day(which I dont reccomend) then you are better off with your smaller stock carb! also now that i am back to a toatally stock motor and am only running bolt on mods the larger carb only made it run worse! I would save your money and buy reeds or something becasue they have more of a power potential!
Porting and Head mods!
when I had first got my odyssey the head and the ports and had mild port work done by a reputable shop! I though this wouod be way more power! It costs around 350 bucks to get both the head and ports done! it does improve power but not enough to worry about unless you are running serious mods! I like it for wide open and high throttle but again it seems to hurt the bottom end! Os i would deffinetly reccomend yo save your money and buy something else!
K&N filters!
Buy far this is one of the best things you can do for your odyssey! For under 40 bucks you can have a better filter and a lot more power! on a totally stock machine you can add the filter jet it properly and pick up 5+mph not to mention about 10% more power from top to bottom! This was one of my first mods and it makes a noticable difference! If you run in a lot of dust I woul reccomned an outerware for it!
REEDS
Lucky for us there are less choices to confuse us! The only reeds specifically made for our odysseys are stock(once there shot get aftermarkets) Boysen both carbon fiber and normal, and FMF Ram valves, torque reeds from boysen! The ram valves are good but are more for slower riding and help boost the power from the bottom to mid mainly! They are the choice if you dont run full out allot! The boysen torque reeds do the same basic thing except all they are is reeds where the ram is actually a modified reed assembly! If you like to run at higher throttle most of the time then go for either the Boysen power reeds or the Carbon fiber reeds form them! One friend onf mine just installed the power reeds which are relitively cheep at 28bucks and he was quite thrilled with the performance saying that he picked up about 5mph and acceleration was much better! So there you go hope this helps! Me I still dont know which ones to get!
