Chapter IX

"So how do you like it?" Isaac asked as he and Shennan were walking around in the park.

She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. "Give me some time to look at if first." She said as she started to walk around a little.

"That's beautiful." She said suddenly, pointing towards a large water fountain in the center of the park.

Isaac nodded and dug into his pants pocket for a penny. "Here." He said handing her the coin. "Make a wish."

Shennan looked at him skeptically. "You believe in wishes?" She questioned.

He nodded and dug into his pocket for another penny for himself. "Yeah, don't you?" He asked smiling.

She shook her head silently.

"Why not?" He asked looking her over.

"Because they aren't real. They don't come true."

"You don't believe in much, do you?" Isaac asked her curiously.

"I believe that people make stuff up to make themselves feel better. When in truth they should accept reality and deal with it. I believe that they make believe things to make themselves feel more safe in their secluded world, or to make them seem more superior to others when they actually aren't." Shennan said as she angrily threw the penny into the fountain.

"And before you even ask," She said firmly, turning to him. "No, I didn't make a wish."

Isaac was quiet for a moment. He closed his eyes and then tossed his penny into the fountain. "Well, I believe in wishes." He stated as they started to walk.

"Tell me, have any come true?" She asked questioningly.

"All of them so far." He replied smiling.

Shennan nodded, "Which ones?" She asked.

Isaac shook his head. "Can't tell ya. Cause if I did then they wouldn't be true anymore." He stated.

"Oh, yeah. That's right." She said sarcastically, hitting her forehead. "I completely forgot about that part of 'The Wish Making Guide Book.' "

"You really like being sarcastic, don't you?" He asked leaning up against a tree.

Shennan leaned up against one too. It was about three feet in front of him. "I prefer cynicism, yes." She replied shrugging her shoulders wearily.

Isaac laughed. "I bet."

He started staring at her after that.

She then shivered slightly from the cold, and from the way Isaac was looking at her. It was late, it was dark, and it was cold. And she was in a place she'd never been before, with a guy she couldn't stand to be around with.

"Here." Isaac said sliding out of his coat.

"No thanks." She said walking away.

But he came up behind her and draped his coat over her shoulders. "Take it. It's cold." He replied.

"Really, I'm fine." Shennan told him, as she was about to take his coat off.

Isaac put his hands on her arms to stop her from taking off his coat. "No, it's cold." He said softly.

She looked down at his hands on her arms, then slowly; she looked up at him.

He was staring down at her. Suddenly, he felt himself placing his lips on hers.

Both pulled away quickly after a few milliseconds and stared at each other.

Isaac noticed that his hands were still on her arms and instantly removed them. "Sorry." He mumbled.

Shennan shrugged off his jacket and handed it to him. "Here. I'm okay."

Taking his jacket back, they started to walk quickly out of the park.

"Well, thanks for the ride and the trip to the park." Shennan murmured before she ran up her driveway.

Isaac stared after her at the beginning of her driveway. Then he went to his house.

-

"I'm sorry, Ike!!" Taylor screeched loudly. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He pleaded with his older brother.

Isaac pushed him hard against the wall. "Man, that was messed up what you did to me. What you did to Shennan." He said angrily.

Taylor's feet searched for the floor. He didn't find it. "Please, Ike. I'm sorry. I've said it like a millions times already. How many more times to I have to say it?" He asked.

Isaac slammed him even harder against the wall, "Until my loving heart forgives you!" He growled.

His feet continued their frantic search for the floor. Still unable to find it.

Mrs. Hanson walked in and gasped loudly at the scene displayed before her. "Clarke Isaac Hanson!" She screamed. "What on earth are you doing to your younger brother?"

Isaac immediately dropped Taylor to the ground. "Tay, just bet me I couldn't pick him up." He said smiling at Taylor.

She turned to Taylor. "Is that true, Taylor?"

Isaac tossed him a warning glance and Taylor quickly nodded. "Yes, it's true." He reached into his pocket for his wallet. "I guess I owe you that five dollars."

"No, no." Isaac said still smiling at him. "It was twenty dollars, Tay. Remember?" He asked his younger brother innocently.

"Are you sure?" Taylor asked, not wanting to give his older brother twenty dollars because he set him up with Shennan.

Isaac nodded. "Yep. I remember."

He sighed and handed him a twenty-dollar bill. "Here you go, man." He voiced tightly.

Isaac smiled at him. "Buh bye, bro." He said walking out the door.

Mrs. Hanson turned to Taylor again. "No more betting in this house, mister." She said sternly.

Taylor nodded his head and left the room as well.

-

"I didn't know that was going to happen!" Stefani screamed as she ran from her sister.

Shennan ran after her. Getting her trapped in the kitchen she replied, "It doesn't matter if you knew it was going to happen or not! The fact that it did, does!"

Being an expert at this game, because she played it so often with Mykah she knew exactly when Stefani was going to make a run for it. She started inching toward the only real exit like Stefani was. She was about to make her move when her father ruined it for her.

Stefani was able to shoot her father and get away. Casting her father a 'drop dead' look, she took off after her twin. But she had locked herself in the bathroom.

Deciding to change into some black jeans and a T-shirt, Shennan went to see if Stefani had come out of her hiding place yet. Testing the knob, and finding it locked, confirmed her belief that Stephanie was still in there.

Shennan then decided to go outside to relax a little, choosing the hammock to relax on, she closed her eyes for a few moments when she heard someone walking towards her.

Opening her eyes and sitting up, she saw Isaac. He looked like he was about to go up in the tree house.

Isaac saw Shennan when she sat up in the hammock, and decided that they should talk about last night. Walking towards her, he saw her stiffen up a little.

Shennan knew exactly why Isaac was coming over to her. He was going to talk about the kiss. I didn't start it! She reminded herself.

It's not my fault that it happened.

She stiffened as he started to walk towards, mentally she groaned.

Isaac stopped right next to the hammock. "We, umm, need to talk." He said slightly nervously. Then he cleared his throat and looked straight at her. "About last night," He started.

She took in a deep breath.
