It started to rain pretty badly, so Mykah, Mackie, Isaac, and Shennan all went into her house to keep dry. It was getting darker from the grey clouds. Lightening would strike and the thunder would follow after.
Sitting down to watch a movie was a pretty good idea, until the electricity started to flicker on and off.
"Guys, just turn it off." Stefani said stretching out in front of Taylor. "We're never going to be able to finish it if the power keeps goin’ on and off."
Shennan stood up. "I'm getting a drink. Anyone want anything?" She asked looking around. Everyone shook their heads no.
Shrugging she left and went into the kitchen. Grabbing a glass out of the cabinet, she went to the refrigerator and took out the pitcher of water.
Filling her glass and returning the pitcher, Shennan took a small sip and placed the glass on the counter and looked out the sliding glass door.
Taking a step closer, she thought she saw something. Then lightening struck in the back yard, causing a bright blue streak of light.
Shennan shrieked loudly and jumped back. Her hand knocking into her glass, sending it crashing to the floor, and shattering into hundreds of tiny little pieces. But she didn't notice, and continued to step backwards.
The glass cutting and slicing into her bare feet. Yet, she didn't feel the pain, or even cared about it at the moment.
Everyone ran into the room. Frightened at the sound of the breaking glass along with the booming thunder.
Shennan covered her ears frantically and started crying. "Make it stop!" She cried out painfully. "Make it stop!"
Completely shaken up by this sight, Isaac went over and hugged her to him tightly. And started leading her back into the living room.
He told Taylor to get a first aid kit and a wet towel, while Stefani stayed and cleaned up the broken glass and blood in the kitchen, while Mackie and Mykah slept through it all upstairs.
Shennan, off in her own little world didn't come back to reality until she felt something harshly stinging her feet. Breaking her trance she looked down and saw Isaac patching up her feet.
She swallowed hard. "Thanks." She said calmly.
Isaac looked up at her. "You're welcome." He replied softly.
They were alone in the living room, and Shennan knew Isaac was going to say something.
"What is it?" He asked.
"What is what?" She asked, sighing to herself.
"What is going on? You have nightmares, you step on glass without flinching, and you freak out when you saw lightening and heard thunder." Isaac stated as he sat next to her.
"I've only had one nightmare." She said holding up her index finger. "And Stef and Mykah had them too." She pointed out.
He sighed in frustration, his hand running through his wavy hair. "You know what I mean." He told her resignedly. "Why won't you talk to me?" He asked hurtfully.
She stared at him, long and hard. "Do you think I want it like this? That I want to leave you in the dark?" She asked him in disbelief.
"Don't you?" Isaac replied.
Shennan shook her head violently and then knelt before him, placing her hands on his knees. "I am in as much of the dark as you are. I have no idea what went on in there." She said gesturing towards the kitchen.
"And I have no idea what's going on in here." She said pointing to her head. "And I certainly don't know what's going on in here or in here." She said pointing to her heart, then to his.
Isaac captured her hand in his. "I do care about you." He said softly. "I want to know what's going on. What's happening in here and here." He said pointing to her head and heart.
"But I don't know what's going on." She said softly. She got up and sat next to him on the couch. "I wish I could tell you. But I can't. I can't tell you what I don't know. I wish that I could. But I can't. I just can't." She said shaking her head.
"Then tell me how you feel. You gave me what you know, now tell me what you feel." He ordered gently.
"I feel lost, confused, hurt, angry, and alone." She said slowly. "Lost and confused because I don't know what's going on with me. Hurt and angry because my father knew and didn't bother telling me until after it happened. And alone because you never went through it and Mykah and Stefani don't seem to have it as bad as me. Neither does anyone else I know." She said nearly in tears again.
Pulling her into a hug, Isaac tried to calm her down a little. "Ssh. Ssh. It's okay. Whatever it is, it's going to be okay." He assured her.
Taylor had came back in after he had given Isaac the first aid kit to help Stefani clean up the mess in the kitchen, and to leave Isaac and Shennan alone.
Stefani was near tears herself. And was carelessly picking up the sharp pieces of glass. Muttering to herself incoherent curse words.
"Stef, be careful." Taylor warned as he walked over to her. "You're gonna, " He started. But it was too late. A long piece of glass split the tip of Stephanie's thumb wide open.
"Ahh! Mother…" She started, as Taylor came over and led her over to the kitchen sink.
"Here." He said placing her thumb under cold water.
Stefani watched in morbid fascination as her blood swirled and mixed in with the water and then went down the drain. "Thanks." She mumbled.
"Calm down, would ya?" He asked gently as he led her to the kitchen table, and sat her down in a chair. "Now talk to me." He said softly.
She took in a deep breath. "I'm scared. I'm scared for Mykah. I'm scared for Shennan... And I'm scared for me." She said quickly.
"I don't know what's going on. And I don't know how to stop it. Shennan's been very protective of Mykah and sometimes I feel her being a bit protective of me. She's strong, but what if she can't protect Mykah, or me. Then who can?" She asked looking up into Taylor's blue eyes.
"Protect you from what?" He asked curiously. "From what do you need protection from."
Stefani had looked down, and was silent for a moment before she looked back up and back into his eyes. "Ourselves." She whispered. "We can't seem to control what we do anymore. The only person who can is Mykah." She said still whispering.
Then, as if she was heard by a higher power, there was a loud crash that came from upstairs.
"Not again!" She shouted as she took off running for the stairs, Taylor right behind her.
When they got there Isaac and Shennan were already there, and at first Stefani thought that the mirror had just fallen off the hooks. It had happen many of times before in the past. But when she came in and got a closer look, she saw Mykah standing in front of the mirror and the mirror was cracked.
Shennan was checking Mykah over and discovered a cut on the back of his tiny hand and knuckles. She ran his right hand under cold water as she asked him what happened.
Mykah looked at the cracked mirror. "I didn't like what I saw." He replied simply.
"What do you mean?" Stefani questioned as she walked farther into the bathroom.
Turning his head to look at her, he replied, "My reflection. It was laughing at me and I didn't like it. I told him to stop but he kept laughing. So I stopped him." He said shrugging his shoulders.
Taylor and Isaac just stared at Mykah in awe and shock.
Shennan picked him up and carried him downstairs into the living room, and grabbed the first aid kit and fixed his cuts.
Slowly she looked at Isaac. "Maybe you should go." She said quietly as she laid Mykah down on the couch. He was asleep in seconds. "You don't need to see this." She said hurtfully. "You don't need to see what we do." Her voice thick from forcing herself not to cry.
Isaac stared at her for a moment. "Okay, but I'll be back in the morning." He said giving her a quick peck on the cheek and left before she could protest.
Stefani said good bye to Taylor too, and sat in one of the recliners. "We should go to bed soon. Dad will be here in the morning." She said yawning.
Shennan shrugged. "I'm sleeping in here tonight." She said as she pulled blankets and a pillow out of the trunk that they used as a coffee table.
"I will too." Stefani said quickly. Not wanting to sleep alone in her room tonight. Or possibly any future nights.
Shennan nodded her head and handed Stefani a pillow. Together they slept in front of the couch that Mykah was sleeping on.
