Stefani and Shennan kept quiet about their nightmares as they proceeded to spend time together. Even though it was what they were constantly thinking about. It was right on the tip of their tongues yet they were afraid to discuss them.
Shennan looked over at Stefani coolly. "Do you know if there is there something up with Mykah?" She asked calmly. Do you know if he got in a fight or something with Mackie?" She asked worriedly.
Stefani shook her head and shrugged. "Why are you asking me?" She asked as she and her watched as Mykah just sat on his bed and stared at his hands.
Ryan walked up behind them. "He hasn't been speaking all morning. And I know he didn't fight with Mackie because last night before we went to bed he kept talking about how much fun they had in the sandbox."
Shennan looked at Ryan and then she looked back at Mykah. Her heart wrenched in her chest. She couldn't take the way he looked and walked in and sat next to him. She placed her hand on his forehead. "You okay, Mykah?" She asked concernedly.
He didn't answer her or say anything. Nor did he move, or take his focus off his hands. He just sat there.
"Mykah?" She asked getting a little paranoid. She shook him gently and he finally looked at her.
Stefani walked on too. "Hey, Mykah." She said softly. "Are you feeling all right? Are you sick?"
Tossing her an angry scowl, Shennan went back to her stepbrother. "Hey, buddy. What's wrong?" She asked putting her arm around his small shoulders.
Finally, he looked up from Shennan to Stefani and then back again. He shrugged off their questions. "Nothing. I'm fine." He replied so soft that they both almost had to strain to hear him.
Shennan looked at him in disbelief. She knew that he knew she wasn't buying this excuse off of him. But for now she had to swallow it. "Mykah, you know I know that's not right." She started.
He just shrank under her arm.
"But please, when you are ready. Come and talk to me." She said sliding her arm off his shoulders. "Please." She said as she got up.
Staring up at her, Mykah nodded his head. "I will." He said before he got up and took off out the door and down the hall.
Stefani stared after him, and heard the back door slide shut with a bang. "Why didn't you make him say what was bothering him?" She questioned.
Shennan sighed softly; "He wouldn't have said anything. Listen, with Mykah and talking he has to do it on his own. I can't force him to do it. And he'll talk to me sooner or later. He always does." She said as she walked out of the room.
"Okay." Stefani replied slowly. Knowing that this was the truth. "What do you think is bothering him then?"
"I don't know yet. He may have had a bad dream too." Shennan whispered. She said it quietly, but loud enough for her to hear.
"Hey Ikey." Mackie said as he walked into the living room.
Isaac smiled at his baby brother. "Hey Mackie." He said as he grabbed his brother and sat him on his lap. "So whatcha up to this mornin?" He asked kindly.
"Nothin." Mackie replied. "I's gonna play with Mykah soon. Wanna come?" He asked smiling hopefully.
Isaac smiled down at him. "Sorry Mackie, but I can't." He said shaking his head. "I plan on doing some major moping today."
"Otay." Mackie said as he climbed off of Isaac's lap and ran for the kitchen.
He smiled as he watched he left. "Aww, he's so cute."
"Hey, Ike." Zac said sitting next o him on the couch.
"Hey." Isaac replied turning his attention back to the TV.
"So what's going to happen with Stefani and Shennan?" He asked as he too watched TV.
He shrugged. "I don't know. Why?" He asked as he turned to face Zac.
Zac mimicked his shrug. "Just curious. It's kinda freaky don't ya think?"
"I have no idea what you are talking about." Isaac said confused.
Sighing loudly and facing him, Zac replied. "Them both having nightmares on the same night. It's kinda freaky."
"Oh." Isaac said as he went back to staring at the TV. "It is I guess."
Zac gave his brother a pathetic glance, and then he got up, and left.
He still just continued to stare at the TV. "What am I watching?" He asked himself out loud as he grabbed for the remote.
"Shennan?" Mykah said softly.
It was after dinner and he was still sitting at the table.
"Yes." She said as she went over to him and sat down. Stefani sat next to her.
"What happens when you have bad dreams? Do they mean they're going to come true?" He asked a little frightened.
Shennan shook her head. "They don't mean that they're going to come true. It's just something that happens in our minds while we sleep." She said softly, trying to explain.
Mykah nodded cautiously.
"What did you dream about?" Stefani asked.
He was silent for a moment. "You two." He said pointing at them.
Shennan paled slightly. "Us?" She squeaked. "What happened to us?" She asked unsure if she wanted to know.
Again Mykah was silent for a moment. "You two were fighting over this knife. I know because I was watching. You kept screaming at each other. It was only a second later that one of you stopped moving. The other just looked up at me. I asked what happened, but they didn't reply. Then someone started carrying me away from it. I struggled to be put down but they wouldn't let." He said as he squirmed in his seat.
Stefani and Shennan both went and hugged him at the same time.
"I'm so sorry Mykah." Shennan repeated over and over in his ear as she rocked him, her, and Stefani back and forth.
After a few moments and Mykah was put to bed and asleep, Shennan turned to Stefani. "We have to find out about this." She said sternly. "I wasn't so much as bothered when it happened to me. But then it happened to you and now Mykah. I'm worried, and I'm scared."
Stefani nodded her head meekly. "So am I." She whispered. "So am I."
