Sabrina came to the venue early. She thought maybe she could catch a glimpse of Isaac. Instead she found Karen.
“Hi Karen… where is Mrs. Hanson… I brought cookies for Mackie and the girls.”
“Shut up.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You were the one that told Isaac to tell Taylor to dump me, didn’t you?”
“Wh"
“Don’t play stupid with me, girl. You did it, I know you did.”
“I did nothing of the sort.”
“Quit lying.”
“I’m not. That was Taylor’s decision to dump you. Taylor has a mind of his own. He’s quite intelligent.”
“You are after him, aren’t you?”
“No. Isaac is my boyfriend. Taylor is my friend. We’ve been friend’s-"
“Oh, stop it with the 'I’ve know them for years' bull…You have the hots for Taylor. You’re just using Isaac.”
“I am not. I love Isaac.”
“Sure how could anyone love someone that ugly?”
Sabrina’s eyes widened. “He is not ugly, he is so handsome.”
“Sure, right, you keep telling yourself that.”
“What in the world is your problem?”
“Nothing. Except that you are trying to take my Taylor away from me.”
“He’s not your Taylor. The only person that owns him is Jordan Taylor Hanson. He calls the shots for himself. He’s a big person.” Sabrina said, just then she saw Mackie. “Mack!” she yelled.
He looked up his eyes brightened. “Rina!!” He ran to her. “Karen, didn’t my brother tell you to go home?” he asked innocently.
She pushed the little boy and walked off.
Mackie ended up on the ground. He teared up and Sabrina knelt next to him. Fixing her skirt so it wouldn’t bunch up under her knees.
“Oh Mackie, come here.”
He crawled into her lap. “I don’t like her Rina, she scares me.”
“I bet she does. Where’s you’re mommy?”
“On the bus.”
“Okay, let’s go.” She picked up the heavy six-year-old. “Mackie, what does your mom feed you? Bricks?”
He smiled. “That’s what Ikey asks me.”
Sabrina laughed at the kid. She carried Mackie to the bus.
“Excuse me miss…” Then the man saw that she was holding Mackie. “What are doing with that child?”
“I’m taking him back to Mrs. Hanson.”
“You can’t go through, give him to me.”
“Mark, this is Rina.”
The man named Mark looked at Sabrina with wide eyes. “So you are the girl that Isaac…”
“Yes, that’s me. I have a backstage pass, I don’t think that grants me the right to go to the bus and if it doesn’t I understand…”
“No, no, no…Mrs. Hanson said if you came that I should escort you straight to the bus.”
Sabrina smiled. “Thank you, sir.”
“Please, call me Mark. I feel like I know you. I talk a lot to Isaac.”
“Oh, so you are the Mark? Yeah, Ike tells me that he talks to you.” She smiled.
“I can see why the family likes you so. After being stuck with that stuffy girl Karen for almost three months…”
“I understand.”
“Well, here you are.”
“Thank you.”
Mackie got down and ran onto the bus. “Come on Rina.” He grabbed her hand and she giggled and pulled her skirt up with the other hand and stepped up on the steps. “Mommy, Rina’s here!”
Diana showed up, she smiled at the sight of Sabrina. “Oh good, you’re here. How are you dear?” she asked and hugged Sabrina.
"I’m just fine, Mrs. Hanson. Is Isaac in a sound check?”
“Yes, he is.”
“Okay.”
“But why don’t you go back there and disturb him?”
“I don’t want-“
“Be quiet, Sabrina.” She smiled. “Here take this note and my pass. They’ll know that you’re allowed back there.”
“Thank you, ma’am.”
“Mark, show her which way to the back stage area.”
“You got it.”
“You look so pretty today, Sabrina.”
“Thank you.” She blushed. “My mom suggested that I get a new outfit to see Isaac in.”
“Well, I like it. I know he will too.”
Mark directed Sabrina which way it was backstage. She walked there nervously she decided to read the note Mrs. Hanson had given her.
Please allow Miss Sabrina Thomas in the sound check to see my son. Isaac. Thank you.
Sabrina smiled at the note. She finally got to the stage she saw Isaac in his white tee shirt, which she found odd because it was slightly chilly outside, but she figured that he must be hot under the lights. He had her sweater tied neatly around his slender waist she laughed and walked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder.
Isaac was startled. He turned around and the look on his face was shock and extreme happiness. His eyes went from deep concentration to a look that could not be described with words.
“Sabrina!” He yelled. Zac smiled from behind his drums. He decided to go over there and say hi.
“Isaac.” She said and hugged him. Neither being concerned with the guitar that was digging into her stomach. He just held her taking in her scent. Thrilled that she was actually close enough to touch and hold.
“Oh girl, I missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too.”
Zac came over. “Hey, Rina.”
“Hey, Zac. How are you? You got taller.” She observed and smiled.
“Ike, could you let her go so I can hug her?” He gave his brother a strange look, but finally let Sabrina go long enough for Zac to hug her.
Then Isaac immediately grabbed her hand again. She smiled at Isaac’s display of affection for her. Taylor wandered over to her.
“Hey Tay, how are you feeling. I heard about the break up.”
“How? I just broke up with her today.”
“I ran into her. She accused me of wanting you for a boyfriend.”
Taylor rolled his eyes. “That’s so absurd.”
“I know, but you try telling that to her.”
“I don’t even want to speak to her again.”
“I don’t blame you. Here give me a hug.” She let Isaac’s hand go and hugged Taylor.
“Rina, how long have you been here?” Isaac asked holding her hand tightly and close to his chest.
“Not long.”
“Well, why don’t you go sit right in front of that microphone so I can finish up the sound check and I can watch you.”
Sabrina blushed. “Okay.”
He pulled her close to him, and kissed her on the lips. “God I’ve missed that.”
“Me too.” They smiled at each other
“Hey, I like that skirt.”
“Thanks.” She let him go and sat in front of the microphone. He watched her with the biggest grin on his face.
“We ready to try a little of ‘Smile’?”
“You got it.” They jammed for a few minutes. Sabrina just watched. Smiling all of the time. That was her boyfriend. She just sighed. They finished up the check and they were all ready to go.
“C’mon we are going to eat, you commin'?”
“I don’t want to impose.”
“Come on, Sabrina.” They all said at once.
“Fine. You don’t have to be so forceful.” She said smiling. Isaac put his guitar on the stand and took her hand.
