A month passed and everyone was much happier without Karen. Although in Tulsa Karen was stirring up trouble. It had been a good show and they had all settled into their hotel room.
Isaac was lying on the bed resting he was tired. The phone rang. He dug for the phone and finally found it. “Hello.”
“Ike… this is Rina.”
“Hey girl, what’s up?”
“Karen is spreading rumors in the paper about Taylor.”
“Oh man, what did she say?” Isaac grew worried.
“She claims that she is pregnant with his child…. Ike, she is pregnant, but with Jim Stewart’s baby.”
“No way! She can’t do that.”
“Unfortunately she can. The rumor won’t be dispelled unless there is a paternity test. And that can’t happen until the baby is born.”
“Oh God. Where is it printed?”
“In Tulsa World.”
“Oh my God. No.”
“That’s okay.” Isaac sighed and rubbed his forehead. “How are you, baby?”
“I’m tired, I’m okay, other than that I had a run in with Karen. She tried to get me to go against you and do the article. She wanted me to claim that you had raped me.”
“What?!” Isaac yelled in surprise.
“Well, almost as punishment for not helping her she plastered it in all of the papers that I was your girlfriend. Ever since then I’ve been hounded by teenage girls threatening me. It’s not been a good week.”
“Oh my goodness.” Isaac sighed. “I’m sorry, baby.”
“Don’t apologize, it’s not your fault, it’s Karen’s.”
"But Karen…”
“Stop, Isaac. Stop. I’m a big girl; I can deal with all of the rowdy girls. I’m just worried about Taylor. You need to tell your parents.”
“I know. Okay I’m gonna go I’ll call you tomorrow.”
“Okay. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
"Good night.”
“Night.” Isaac hung up the phone and sighed. He leaned his head against the headboard of the bed.
Taylor came out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist, hair dripping with water. He was digging for sleep cloths when he saw Isaac looking upset on the bed. “What’s up, Ike?”
“I just talked to Sabrina.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Karen is spreading rumors.”
“What kind of rumors?” He asked slowly picking up a shirt. He looked nervous. In his mind he ran through everything that he had ever said to Karen. He couldn’t think of anything that could possibly have said to Karen that she would try and use against him.
“She told Tulsa World that she is pregnant with your child.”
"What?!” Taylor screamed. “I never even had sex with her.”
"I know, I trust you, Taylor.” Isaac stood up and looked him in the eye.
“I can’t believe her. She was the one who hurt me I never hurt her. I wanted to take it slow.” Taylor began to cry. “All I wanted was a girl that would sit with me… that would love me for me Jordan Taylor. Not Taylor Hanson the superstar singer. All I wanted was someone like Sabrina. I never though that she would do this to me. Ike what are we going to do?”
“Calm down, Taylor!” He grabbed her brother's bare shoulders. “We have to tell mom and dad. They’ll know what to do. I don’t.” Taylor just nodded and wiped the tears with the back of his hand. “Go get dressed and we’ll tell mom and dad.”
“Tell what to mom and dad?” Zac asked with a concerned look on his face.
“Karen told the papers back home that she’s pregnant with Taylor’s child.”
“What?”
“Yup.”
“Taylor, you never…”
“No!” he screamed his voice cracking with emotion.
“I didn’t think so, I was just checking.”
“I’m gonna go get dressed.” Taylor said quietly and took his clothes into the bathroom.
“I can’t believe that she did that to him.” Zac said angrily.
“I can. Sabrina told me that she feared something was going to happen that wasn’t good.”
“Well, she was right.”
“I wish she hadn’t been.”
“Me too.”
“Poor Taylor.”
“Yeah poor Taylor.”
Taylor emerged dressed he looked scared and sick. He had chosen to wear Isaac’s green nightshirt. It was huge on him, he looked so small in it. His eyes were worried and scared.
“Come on, let’s go tell the parental units.” Zac said sighing.
Taylor smiled a little.
“There, the good ol’ Zac charm did make you smile.” Zac said.
