Diana poked her head into Cassie’s room. “Hey, sweetie.”
“Hey, Mom.”
“We’re here to break you out.”
“We?”
She opened the door and the whole family piled in. “Oh dear.”
Mackie jumped on the bed. “You coming home now, sissy?”
“I hope so, Mack.”
“Good because Zackie isn’t fun when you aren’t home.”
Zac blushed and looked down. “Yes, well, we’ve been worried about you.” He said trying to defend himself.
The doctor came in. “Mr. and Mrs. Hanson.”
“Yes?"
The doctor looked at the other kids and then to Mr. and Mrs. Hanson.
“Isaac, take you’re brothers and sisters to the cafeteria and you get them something to eat.”
“Okay, Mom. C’mon everyone.”
All of the kids left the room. Zac was the last out. He looked at Cassie then to the doctor and closed the door.
“Well, we have the test results back. The tumor is cancerous but that’s the only spot.” Diana hung onto Walkers hand.
“Can it be removed?” Walker asked calmly.
“Yes, actually it’s in the best spot for operating on.”
Cassie looked at her parents seeking relief.
“Can she go home today?”
“Actually, no. We would like to get that out as soon as possible.”
“Alright, Doctor. Thank you.” He nodded and left.
Walker, Diana and Cassie looked at one another.
“Mommy, I’m scared.”
“I know, baby.” Diana stroked Cassie’s hair.
Isaac poked his head in the door.
“We ready to go, Mom?”
“Come in here, Isaac. Are the others with you?”
“No,” Isaac turned and closed the door behind him. “Taylor is with them in the cafeteria.” He paused and looked at his parents. “What’s wrong, Mom?”
“You’re sister’s tumor is cancerous. Ike, she’s staying here and getting it removed.”
“Oh God.” His eyes were wide with fright and duty. “I’ll call the airline and cancel our flight and call Chris….”
“Stop Ike…” he was still rambling. “Ike, stop.” Cassie said a little more forcefully. He finally stopped talking and looked at her. “You are going to go and make that album.”
“But Cass…”
“Don’t you ‘but Cass’ me. You Tay and Zac are going to leave tomorrow. And you are going to make that album.” Cassie said forcefully.
“But…”
“Isaac, I really don’t’ want everyone here to watch me go through this. Please just take all of the kids…. and dad and go.” She grinned at her father.
