Zac spoke up, “Why don’t you have a real boyfriend?”

“Well, a lot of reasons actually.” She said with a sigh. “First of all, I never have time for anything other than my mom and school. That’s my fault but that’s the way it is. Second, the boys at school are jerks. I think that’s what every girl that doesn’t have a boyfriend says.” She and Zac laughed a little. “Lastly, I don’t think I’m pretty enough.”

Zac sat straight up. “Why do girls say that? My beautiful ten-year-old sister asked me if I thought she was ugly, the other day. I couldn’t believe that. Why do all girls think they are ugly?”

“This really perplexes you doesn’t is, Zac?”

“Yes, it does.”

“I don’t know why exactly. Maybe it’s because we compare ourselves with other girls. Like me I’m not tall enough, I have a weird shaped face. I’m too skinny. I just want to be that tall blonde with big boobs. I guess.”

“I hate girls like that.” Zac admitted. “And those are the kind of girls that are attracted to me and assume that I want to date them. All I want is a woman that can make me laugh, make me want to hold her every second of the day, make me want to come home, make me want to make love with her, make me want her to be the only one to have my children. That’s what I want. That may come in a four foot-eleven inch, brown hair, brown eyed, not so thin, package. I don’t know.”

“I wish there were more guys like you.”

“Actually most guys think like this.”

“Then why..?”

“You didn’t let me finish…most guys go to public school and they have to be macho so they pretend stuff like breasts and figure matter, while all that stuff is nice most of us just want a good friend.”

“What school do you go to?”

“Mom and dad high school.”

Asia almost fell over she was laughing so hard. Her laughter was contagious and Zac began laughing as well. “I’ve never heard anyone put home schooling so creatively.” She said while trying to calm herself.

“Yes, well. My brothers and I have learned that all we want is someone that is nice and caring and that wants us for us…especially my second older brother.”

“Why?”

“He’s attractive and girls usually flock to him and it annoys him. They all just want to say that they are his girlfriend.”

“Oh, like the jock type?”

“No, no, my brother is skinner than me. I’m taller but he’s five eleven of skin and bone. He’s the quiet type.”

“Oh, with the big pouty lips and the pretty eyes.”

“How did you know?”

“Every girl dreams of that type.”

“Ahhh. What does your dream guy look like?”

“No, no, you tell me what your dream girl looks like first. I don’t want to feel stupid.”

“Fine, fine. Ummm I think she would have darker skin, long black hair, big black eyes, medium height, and small breasts.” He finished. “You? You’re dream guy?”

Just then a watch beeped.

“Oh, I’m sorry Zac. I have to get home. I have to be home.”

“Man.”

“I’ll be back here next Friday.”

“I’ll be right here waiting for you.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I know, but I want to. I’ll see you next Friday.”

“Okay, bye, Zac.”

“Bye, Asia.”

“Bye, Zac.” She got up and brushed her knees off and waved a little and walked toward her house.

Zac watched her walk to the end of the street until she disappeared. He turned and walked into the house. He was greeted by his brother Taylor.

“Hey, Zac.” He said looking up from his book.

“Hey, Taylor.”

“Isaac said that you were out with a girl that was outside.”

“Yup.”

“Fan?”

“Nope.”

“That’s a switch.”

“Yes, well.” Zac sat down next to his brother. “What do you think it would be like if mom wasn’t here?”

“Zac! How can you ask me something like that?”

“The girl I was talking to, her mother is dying. And I was thinking about what it would be like if it were me in her place.”

“Still don’t say things like that.” Taylor scolded. He looked thoughtful for a moment. “I don’t know what I would do. Mom is the one that I go to. Mom is the one that understands me. I would probably be lost without her.” Taylor paused for a moment. “Is she nice?”

“Yeah, she’s real nice. Her and Ike would make a cute couple.”

“He needs a girl.”

“Yes, he does.”

“I wish that girls would treat him normally and not try to get through him to get to me. I know that sounds conceited but…” Taylor shook his head. His shoulder length blonde hair falling forward into his eyes. He gingerly pushed it back behind his ears.

“I know. This girl doesn’t even know who I am. She just thinks I’m some kid that moves around a lot with a big family.”

“Oh, that sounds real nice.”

“It is.”

“Well Zac, I’m gonna go to bed. I promised Jessie that I would take her to the mall.”

Zac noticed Taylor smile. He liked the fact that Jessie had asked to do something with him. Simple things made Taylor the happiest.

“Night, Tay.”

“Night, Zac.”
