Chapter 9

It was Randy's first week in the recording studio. She had been working for three and a half-hours straight… and she was getting tired.
Dahven smiled encouragingly at her though, she had a surprise for her friend that night. If she could hold up that long. She looked tired and over worked, but determined to do the best job that she could do.
"Charm?" Randy called out softly, and then the worst thing that could happen to a singer happened to her at that moment. Her voice broke, and then went silent when she tried to talk again.
Dahven stared at her in horror, and a few of the studio hands went over to Randy immediately, with her right along with them.
"Oh, my god, Randy. Are you all right?" She asked concernedly, her eyes searching her face for an answer.
"Yea." Randy tried to say, but all that came out was a weak whisper. Clearing her throat she tried again. "Yea." But the exact same thing happened.
"Her voice is gone for the day." Rick Stevens, the studio owner, said authoritatively. He was producing the album for Randy and teaching Dahven some new legal tricks.
He nodded towards Dahven, "Take her and make her rest it."
Looking at her, Dahven nodded. "Okay." She said softly. "Let's go."
Randy nodded also. "When…" She started off before Dahven interrupted her.
"Uh, uh. Your voice is gone, girl. Rest it for about a day and we'll try again." She commanded sternly. "We'll get you some warm water and salt to gargle with, and then some honeyed tea."
    Randy nodded again.
"You did great today Randy." Rick said smiling brightly at her. "You're going to make it I do believe."
Smiling a small smile Randy gave him a short wave and walked out of the room. Dahven followed behind her.
"If you're feeling up to it, I'll take you out tonight to a wonderful restaurant that I know." She said smiling brightly.
Randy looked up and her and shrugged. "K." She whispered.
Sitting down and waiting for Randy to sit down also, before she spoke up, "I have some people coming to meet you. They think that you're great." She said smiling slyly.
Randy stared at Dahven in horror. "But I…" She started. She took a sip of her water. "But I can't talk." She tried again, this time a hoarse whisper came out.
"They don't care." Dahven reassured her. "They like you no matter what." She said shrugging. "And stop talking!" She ordered smiling.
Then her smiled widened. "Here they come now." She said nodding towards the door.
Randy didn't have to turn around before she knew who it was that was coming to eat with them. Some one had hissed out, 'Oh, my God! It's Hanson!"
She started laughing, as Dahven did. After they were seated with them, only then did Randy try to make eye contact with Taylor.
Taylor smiled at her. "So how was your day?" He asked cheerfully.
Randy looked at Dahven for help, and she smiled warmly at her. "She lost her voice today at work, Tay. So only ask questions that she can nod or shake her head to."
"Well, that sucks." Zac commented ruefully before grinning. "Though when Tay's voice was changing that was kinda funny."
With that comment Taylor's face went to a pale pink and Randy's eyes twinkled with merriment and she gave out a short small laugh.
Dahven and Isaac watched as Taylor, Randy, and Zac were trying to have a real conversation. It was hilarious.
Taylor would ask a yes or no question and then Zac would start making faces and asking other questions while Taylor was still asking his.
Isaac leaned over to Dahven and whispered in her ear. "Think Tay likes Randy?" He asked smiling.
She smiled up at him, then leaned over and whispered in his ear. "I know she likes him." Then she placed her index finger to her lips. "Shhh. Not supposed to tell anyone." She said giggling.
Isaac laughed and watched the conversations between the three in amusement. Dahven snuggled up to him, and then suddenly everything was different.
It didn't feel right for her to be that close to him.
Sitting up straight, Dahven looked over at him. He could only stare back at her. Equally confused as she.
Then Zac spoke up breaking the questioning stare between them. "So what are we doing tonight?" He asked smiling.
Dahven stared at her plate. "I don't know." She said shrugging."
I don't know. She repeated in her mind.     Days later, Dahven still didn't know as she slowly walked around her hotel room. Her and Randy were sharing one in LA. Every time she turned around it seems as if Isaac would pop into her mind and haunt her. Things just weren't right between them. And it seemed as if Taylor and Randy couldn't get any closer without being a couple.
She smiled at the thought of them being a couple. Only with that thought, she thought of Isaac. Again.
She had always pictured her and Isaac double-dating with Taylor and Randy since she'd met her. Now it seemed if there was going to be any double-dating Isaac would be with a different girl or she would be with a different guy.
Shrugging off her thoughts she looked over the balcony. Down below she watched as Taylor and Randy walked along the beach.
Dahven smiled and not wanting to spy on them, she walked back into her room. That's when she noticed that Isaac was standing in the doorway watching her.
Smiling weakly, Dahven motioned for him to come in.
"We're hanging on aren't we?" He asked softly as he sat down on one of the beds.
Dahven nodded weakly as she kneeled before him. "Nothing feels like it used to. Why?" She asked confused, as she placed her hands on his knees.
Isaac sighed. "We never see each other anymore." He said looking away from her. It hurt too much for him to see her. And having her touch him was torture. Only he didn't want her to stop. "And then when we do, we're so tired and barely able to catch up that we keep getting farther and farther behind one another."
"I have to do this." Dahven said looking up at him, the tears making her eyes shine. "This is a dream of mine. I'm helping Randy with hers."
"I know." He whispered taking her right hand. "And I'm doing my dream. I'm doing Hanson's dream." He replied.
Dahven looked away, her hands dropping away from him. "At least we stopped before we lost our friendship." She said smiling weakly up at him.
Isaac swallowed the lump in his throat and kissed her cheek. "You will always be my best friend, D." He said smiling.
Dahven stood up and smiled also. She helped him up and she kissed his cheek too. "And you will always be mine."
She pulled him towards the balcony. "But I however don't think they're going to be staying just friends for long."
Looking down at his brother and her friend, Isaac laughed. "Nah, I don't think so."
They stood in silence. Relishing in their friendship.
Dahven nodded, then laughed out loud suddenly. "Did you ever just take a step back and look at your life and say, 'Now how in the hell did I end up here?'" She asked smiling at Isaac.
    Isaac smiled back. "Yup."
Down on the beach, Randy and Taylor walked along the surf, just talking when they got on the subject of music.
"So what did you think of Hanson when you first saw us." He asked smiling at her.
Randy blushed slightly at this question. "You don't wanna know." She said shaking her head and walking a bit faster.
"Yes, I do." Taylor said grabbing her elbow and slowing her down.
"Do I have to tell the truth?" She asked looking at her feet.
Lifting her chin up so that she would look him in the eyes, he nodded. "Yes."
Randy let herself drown in his eyes, whose color belonged to the Pacific. Then she smiled. "I thought you were a girl!" She shouted laughing before racing off into the cool water.
Taylor laughed also. "Why you…" He started, chasing after her. They were both laughing and wet, and after a few seconds Taylor had caught her. She was laughing out of control when he started to tickle her.
"Stop!" She screamed laughing. "Come on stop it!" She shouted when he wouldn't let up. Then she tried tickling him back for a moment or two.
After a few minutes of tickling each other, they both started to calm down some. That's when they realized exactly how close they were to each other.
Randy was a bit nervous and she didn't want to look up. So she stared at his chest for the longest time.
Taylor was equally nervous. He had never been this close to a girl who made his heart skip a few beats every time he saw her or accidentally brushed his skin against hers.
He stood there staring at the top of her head. Wishing that she would look up at him. As if God himself had heard him and sent the message to Randy she slowly started to look up at him. When she was looking him in the eyes, he slightly angled his head to left and angled hers to the right.
Then he slowly brought his lips down against hers. There they met in the sweetest kiss that either of them ever had. His warm lips started to caress hers and she started kissing him back.
After several long moments the kiss trailed off. Leaving them both breathless and happy.
Randy stared up at him. "Wow." She said smiling.
Taylor smiled at her. "Took the words right out of my mouth." He said softly before he kissed her again.
