Hanson Reviews
Summer's In Purple
Mine (Shann's) In Blue
MMMBop
This is the one that started it all. And 3 years later, I still get a kick out of it. It shows 11, 13, 16 year old kids, being kids. And they didn't pretend to be anything they weren't. It was simple and maybe
kinda cheesy, but it got its objective across- introducing Hanson to the world. And *gasp* they actually owned jeans at one time in their lives!
*S* I still love this video! It totally got me back into the whole loving music completely scene. This vid means a lot cause ya know, it was Hanson being Hanson. And they were in cotton! And... and... sneakers!! And ohmigosh! They actually DID wear jeans at one time! And Zac was still the cute kid instead of this great looking guy that he is now! *melancholy sigh* ah the good ole' days... Also, I love how they did the whole dropping of seeds, dirt, and water *L* doubt if it actually took to growth, but it was cool anyhow!
I Will Come To You (Over Seas Version)
A lot of people didn't like this video at all. I, personally, thought it was pretty good. Not their best video, but I liked it. Mostly, I like the (maybe unintentional) symbolism and contrast in the video. I like the contrast of the bright clean glowing yellow of the forest to the dark gloomy of the 'city'. I especially think its cool when they insert the glowing yellow images of the guys singing into the 'city' sequence.
The only thing I really didn't like was the whole ghost/floating images thing. It was just eerie.
I love this vid too! I don't care if anyone else didn't *shrugs* I did, so that's that. Like Summer said the concepts and symbolisms are amazing. I loved the golden images and the gloomy city. And contrary to Summer *G* I love the floating ghosts... though I always thought of them to be the lost souls... Personal opinion. But very cool. However, during the solo glowing scenes in the city, Taylor and Zac worried me... did it look like they needed a bathroom quickly to anyone else? *L* Other than that, I do love this video. Very unique, meant something, and that's what counts!
Weird
Love this video. My favorite video to date. Hanson likes to do videos that are relatively simple and shows them playing their instruments. Gus Van Zant mangaged to do that, AND (unlike the other directors) add
other dimensions to the video. I like the subway scenes that show all the diffrent types of actual people (not blond models or actors, real people). The rotating room is awesome. It's just very simple (as in, no computers or harnasses or anything) and illustrates the feelings in the song). *L* the water scenes are just funny. Zac looks like his cheeks
are going to explode from holding his breath too long. I think this video was turning point for them and deserved all the attention it got on MTV.
*shakes head* This is one of the most amazing vids I've ever seen. (Damn, I'm 18 and I've seen a lot!) Showing of all the diff. kinds of people in the subway is awesome, and then on the cart with all the 'Hanson ads' was just totally cool too. I have to say, I love the beginning 'ooh ooh ooh' *L* I absolutely LOVE that part! (It's only because I'm demented) Nah, but the whole concept of it, was amazing. Specially the twin thing, *L* kinda freaky, but still cool. However! (oh you knew this was coming!) when they were jumping out of the water, and back into the subway cart,*LOL* Taylor looked way beyond a normal confused blonde *shakes head* and that's really sad, man. Peroxide and bleach are NOT your friends!
River
This video was kind of a disappointment to me. I love the song and love the concept(s). And personally, that was the problem. There was 3 different videos in one. There was the Titanic plotline, which was hilarious, and could have been taken much further. Then it went to the
home video clips (*L* that just shows they were typical kids- how many guys do you know that shaved their hair and put the rest in a pony tail!
that's soooo 1992!) and then the live performance footage. It's very choppy. I think it would have been better if they would have just went all the way with one concept instead of three.
Kind of a disappointment?! Song's great. Vid...uh, nu uh *shakes head* I liked the Titanic spoof. *L* that was funny (duh) but they either needed to continue on with that idea, or just not do it at all really. I think it would have been a much better vid if they did the whole concert thing (newer one besides the 10 spot one) the go cut to flashbacks. Home vids to new appearances and performances *shrugs* The line 'I guess we'll never know, exactly where this river's gonna flow' and 'lately we've been talkin' about who are, it seems we don't know anymore' they just make the vid idea more appealing to me. Personal opinion though.
This Time Around
I think maybe the "Making the Video" spoiled us on what to expect with this video. Maybe I just don't like David Meyers. I dunno. But this isn't my favorite video. I like the Taylor shot at the beginning of the video. And there's a lovely shot of Taylor's awesome *cough* sparkle shoes. I love the fact the guys have little solo shots through out the video. All in all, it's an OK video.
I definitely love this song, this video is... um, not something I'd have an emotional attachment to. No offense... but maybe Dave Meyers should stick to making rap video's...?? He either couldn't seem to capture Hanson or the idea... or maybe Hanson didn't wanna be captured and the idea just wasn't glamorous enough or maybe there wasn't an idea. Don't get me wrong, I do like the solo shots *nodding* definitely, I think those are quite cool and everything. Just don't get why the whole 'rave' thing was used, cause to me that was cheezy and a bit lame *shrugs* Whatever ideas they had that they thought might've been a bit scary *L* you couldn't have done any worse, boys! I was frightened by this one!
If Only
Once again, Dave Meyers directed. For some reason, I like this
performance video better than I like TTA. Maybe it's the awesome surroundings and backround shots. Or maybe it's cause there aren't as many extras- Anyway. On with the video. First off, *L* Isaac driving a RV. A
scary prospect in itself. Add the fact the RV is proabably older than all 3 boys put together- frightening. Second- *LOL* Zac has a striking
resemblance to Kid Rock in most of the shots. Add a fake fur coat and some half naked chicks and they could be twins. Fast-forward to the campfire scenes. Of course, gotta mention the 'LOOK'. You know what I am
talking about. I dont know if it was deliberate or not, but its the FUNNIEST thing to me. Dunno why, just cracks me up everyime. And if you look while Taylor is trying to 'hit' on that girl. Isaac is singing with
some girls arms around him, and what is Zac doing? *L* Taking a big log and playing around with the campfire. Gotta love it.
I have no freakin' clue what important part that RV signifies in this video... *L* It may be just me though! This song is cool, love the beat, the lyrics are awesome, Taylor don't flirt. You most likely will not be taken seriously when you give that face *LOL* It's... too adorable; it's a look you find on your 5 year old cousin and saw 'Aww' to, instead of on a 17 year old heart-throb that you're supposed to drool and try and say 'yes' to... but no offense though! ;) I think their performance and the dirtbikes in the background is pretty darn cool as well *nodding* but does anyone else think Isaac looks pretty mad during the whole thing? The sunglasses Zac wears remind me of cop-shades *shrugs* is he looking forward to a life of law, or just the handcuffs?? And why are they actually on top of the RV? I find this moronic on their part. And then there's Zac and his twigs, beating out a beat on his legs. Now I know drumsticks come from the same material and all, but Zac? Are you trying to be more environmental friendly? We all knew about 'save a tree eat a beaver' but we just never knew how far you've taken it, dude...
