Part VII

Taylor and his brothers had been touring for the past four months while Keesha had been in a foreign country doing something that was a secret. And it was driving him crazy with unanswered questions.

He was going to see Keesha tomorrow though. These last four months had seemed like four years to him. He never would have believed that he would get involved with a girl that was a year and a half older than him. Never in his life! But then Keesha walked into his life. More like he walked into hers. Still he loved her and she loved him.

Staring at his clock he noticed that it was now today that he was going to see her. Only eight more hours to go. He said to himself. Trying to make it seem like it didn't matter. But it does matter! His mind shrieked loudly.

After a few hours of tossing and turning in frustration and excitement he finally dozed off.

Upon awaking several hours later Taylor was up and getting ready. Running around his house searching for his other shoe. He lifted couch cushions and the couch in his frantic search.

"Taylor, honey, what are you looking for?" Mrs. Hanson asked holding his newest sibling. His baby sister Zoe.

"Umm, I've been searching for so long I've forgotten. But I'm sure when I see it that I'll know it." He said going upstairs to his room.

Mrs. Hanson smiled to herself and tickled the child in her arms on the chin.

Then she heard screaming coming from upstairs.

"Zac! Give me my shoe!" Taylor shouted. Then he came running down the stairs. He quickly kissed his mother on the cheek and ran out the door. Calling, 'goodbye' over his shoulder.

Zac walked down the stairs smiling innocently.

"Why are you smiling, Zac?" Mrs. Hanson asked. "Why couldn't Taylor find his shoe? And what did you have to do with it?"

"Tay, couldn't find his shoe because I was carrying it around with me. While he looking for it." Zac said shrugging.

Mrs. Hanson couldn't help but laugh.

Keesha was nervous. So nervous that she couldn't eat her breakfast.

She had great news to tell Taylor. This could change everything between us. She thought to herself.

Africa still padded along with Keesha. Even though Keesha really didn't want him to anymore. She saw the light blinking by the door and sighed. That can go now too. She thought absentmindedly as she opened the door.

Before she could get a word out Taylor took her in his arms and kissed her passionately for a very long time.

"Wow." She said pulling back breathless. She was smiling at Taylor. She grew a little, so she wasn't that much shorter than him anymore.

Taylor smiled back at her. "I missed you." He said softly.

Keesha's heart melted. She finally got her wish. "I have something to tell you." She said quietly.

"Is it good or bad?" Taylor asked a little worried.

"It's definitely good." Keesha reassured him smiling.

"Keesha, aren't you going to let him in?" Asia asked as she walked behind them.

"I was just going to, Mom." Keesha said still looking at Taylor.

Taylor's mouth dropped open. "You can hear me?" He asked.

Keesha nodded. "Let's go for a walk, Taylor. I want to hear the birds singing this morning." She said smiling.

Taylor smiled back and laced his fingers with hers. "Is that why you were gone for four months and not even telling me why?" He asked as they went down her driveway.

"Yeah." She replied softly. "There was a seventy percent chance that it wouldn't have worked. But the surgery was successful. All of them."

Taylor stopped. "What do you mean, 'all of them?' " He asked concernedly.

Keesha smiled weakly and kept quiet until they sat down at a bus stop. "Taylor, I had twelve operations done on my ears. And I had a few done on my arms to remove the scars." Her eyes were sparkling with happiness.

Hugging her, Taylor whispered quietly in her ear. "I love you."

Keesha felt tears slowly trickle down her cheeks. "I love you too." She whispered back. "More and more each day."

Taylor kissed her softly on the lips. "So did you get all of your hearing back?"

"Not completely all of it. But I can hear everything with my little handy dandy hearing aid from miracle ear." She said smiling.

"So what's it like?" He asked smiling at her, sharing her happiness.

"Well, I got to hear you say that you loved me, and I must say this, I love your voice." She said giggling.

Then she stopped to be serious. "I almost cried when I first walked out of my house. It was a few days after the final surgery and my ears were still ringing. I had heard a blue jay singing in my tree, I heard children laughing as they played a weird form of tag, and I heard you guy's sing on the radio." Keesha said as more tears slowly slid down her cheeks.

Taylor gently wiped away her tears. He hugged her tightly. "Wanna listen to the real deal?" He murmured in her ear.

Keesha pulled back. "I would love to." She said before giving him a quick kiss on his lips.

Standing up, Taylor helped her up also. He slid a protective arm around her waist and kept her close to his side.

Keesha was smiling brightly. She felt as if she were on top of the world. She heard birds chirping, Taylor telling her that he loved her, and now she was going to hear him and his brother's sing. Not just lip-read. But HEAR. She was actually going to hear them.

"Guys I wanna play for Keesha." Taylor stated. He was holding her hand and standing in the middle of his bedroom that he shared with Isaac and Zac.

Keesha was looking down at her feet.

"Are you sure you want?" Isaac asked. "It will be just like the last time." He pointed out.

Zac nodded his head in agreement.

Taylor smiled. "Not exactly." He said giving Keesha a little nudge.

Keesha looked up at Isaac and Zac. "This time I'll be able to hear you guys." She said smiling.

Isaac and Zac were shocked for a moment. But when they came out of it they both hugged her at the same time.

"Don't I feel left out." Taylor said smiling at the small group.

Then he joined in too.

"Can I have some air please?" Keesha asked laughing.

They all pulled back laughing. "Sorry about that." Isaac apologized.

"It was a Kodak moment." Zac explained.

Keesha nodded. "That's okay. I enjoyed not having oxygen."

Taylor put his arm around her waist again. "So how about it guys? Can we play for her?" He asked looking at Keesha.

"Only because it's her." Zac said nonchalantly.

"Thanks." Keesha said nodding her head.

Soon she was being led down into their garage. There was sheet music everywhere. Along with their instruments and other equipment. The walls were decorated with drawings that they obviously did themselves. She looked around and sat down in an old worn out couch.

They went to their instruments and made sure that they were perfect. Then Zac banged his drumsticks together. "1-2-3-4!!" He said loudly before he started to beat on his drums, Isaac was strumming his guitar, and Taylor's fingers were gliding over the keys on his keyboard.

"You have so many relationships in this life. Only one or two will last. You go through all the pain and strife and you turn your back and they're so fast." Taylor's voice rang out clearly. "Oh yeah. And they're gone so fast. Yeah, yeah. Oh, so hold onto the ones who really care. In the end they'll be the only ones there. When you get old and start losing your hair, can you tell me who will still care. Oh care. Mmmbop ba duba dop badu dop. Duba dop badu dop ba duba dop badu. Yeah. Yeah."

Keesha watched and listened in amazement. She smiled to herself. No longer will I be left in silence. She vowed to herself as she smiled brightly at Taylor. No longer.

She knew, that for the first time in her life that everything was going to be all right. She had Taylor and her hearing.

What more could she ask for?
