Chapter 95
"Hello? Earth to Howie and Libby. You guys OK?" I ask confused.
"Oh...uh what?" Howie asks.
"Nick asked how your date was." Kevin says.
"Oh...it was great." Howie says.
"Yeah, it was great." Libby says.
AJ and I look at each other for a minute. I know he's thinking the same thing I am. Why the heck are they acting so weird all of a sudden?
" What'd you guys do?" I ask.
" We went out to eat, and then a boat ride," Libby says, quickly.
" Is that it?" I ask.
" Um....yeah. Why?" Howie says.
" Curious," I say, eyeing him and Libby.
" Why are you guys getting back so late?" Brian asks, taking Sarah's wrist and looking at her watch.
" Um...We just...lost track of time," Howie answers.
" Yep," Libby says.
" Yeah..I bet," AJ mutters. I can tell he's beginning to think he knows why they were acting strange.
" Yep..So, uh, what were you guys doing?" Libby asks, trying to get off the subject.
" Well," Kevin says. " When you guys came in we were teasing AJ with his sunglasses, and he was threatening to do away with his fiance.... But before that we were watching a movie."
Howie and Libby laughed.
" What movie?" Howie asked, taking a look around the slightly messy apartment.
" Armageddon," Shena said. " It's our second movie tonight. The first one was Romeo & Juliet."
" Oh. Is it over yet? I love that movie," Libby says.
" Nope...We're at the part where they're on the asteroid and...Rock Hound is playing with that gun," Nick says.
" Well...Can we finish watching it with you?" Libby asks.
" Sure. Of course," I say.
" Cool."
We all get our places. Me and AJ on one side of the couch, Nick next to us, Kevin and Shena on the other side of him, Sarah and Brian took the love seat, and Howie sat down in the recliner, pulling Libby into his lap.
(After the movie was over)
Everyone but me, AJ, Howie, and Libby are asleep.
" Do you think Nick will hurt himself sleeping like that?" I ask. " I'd get a crick in my neck."
" Nah..he'll be all right" AJ says, stretching.
I shrug, look at Howie and Libby still sitting in the recliner, and smile. " What's up with you two?"
" You never give up, do you?" Howie asks, smiling.
" Nope. Not until I figure out what I wanna know," I tell him.
Libby laughs a little. " I have to go to the bathroom." She gets up and starts walking away. " Oh, before I forget, here's your necklace. I think it really is a good luck charm." She smiles, hands me my necklace, and walks into the bathroom.
" What does she mean?" AJ asked.
Howie...what happened tonight?" I ask, my curiosity growing.
He looks hesitant, but says.." Well...we..um..." He looks at everyone else as if to make sure they're asleep, then looks back at me and AJ. " We..um, kinda, you know..."
AJ laughs. " You didn't! Come on, this was only your first date!"
" Shut up, AJ. I'm sleeping," Brian says, sleepily, throwing a pillow in our direction.
AJ motions me and Howie to the kitchen.
" You're serious?" AJ asks, surprised.
Howie nods.
" Oh my gosh..." I say.
"It wasn't meant to turn out that way though." Howie says.
"Yeah, it just happened." Libby says as she walks into the kitchen.
"Well, we're all adults here. We can act maturely about this. My question is, what now? And, do you regret what you did?" I ask seriously.
Howie and Libby look at each other for a while.
"No." Howie says.
"No what?" AJ and I ask.
"No, I don't regret it one bit." Howie says.
Libby smiles and says, "I don't regret it either."
"OK, we have progress." I say.
"So now what are you guys going to do? Where do you go from here?" AJ asks seriously.
"God AJ, you sound like a judge or something." Howie says.
"This is somewhat serious you guys. I mean, this could either screw up or help your relationship with each other." AJ says.
"So what's the next move you guys?" I ask.
"You can tell they're getting ready to be parents." Howie whispers to Libby.
"No, Howie, we still have a couple more months to practice." I say.
AJ smiles as he thinks of the babies.
"Well, I think that this will help our relationship." Howie says.
"Well, I think that we should all sleep on this tonight. I'm really tired and I get grumpy when I'm tired." I say.
"Yeah, I know that's the truth." AJ says.
I hit him in the chest and say, "Hey, shut up."
"See, told ya." AJ says.
"Just go find a room or a spot to sleep." I say as I walk down the hall with AJ.
