The doctor continues, "Boy
and Girl."
"What?!?" AJ and I
both ask.
"You two are having twins."
The doctor says.
"Oh my gosh!" I yell.
"What? How?"
AJ asks.
"Well, look at the screen.
It was hard to see at first. But there's the girls head and legs.
Then there's another pair of legs, and see that...well...it's a boy."
The doctor says smiling.
I look up at AJ and he looks
at me. At first I can't tell what he's thinking. Then a big
smile forms on his face; then I smile. He leans down and hugs me.
"Well, have you two thought
of any names?" The doctor asks.
"We thought of a name for
if it was a boy, and we thought of a name for if it was a girl. So
I guess we're using both names." AJ says.
"Mind if I ask what they
are?" The doctor asks.
"For a boy it's Christian
Alexander." I say.
"And for a girl it's Dominique
Marie." AJ says.
"Those are beautiful names,"
The doctor says smiling, "I'm going to get this ultrasound picture taken
so that you can show them off."
"OK." AJ and I say.
"I'll be right back."
The doctor says walking out of the room.
AJ and I sit in the room
silently for a while. It's like we have no idea what to say.
"My gosh, two baby's."
AJ says softly.
"How does that make you
feel?" I ask AJ.
"Like we're going to have
a lot on our hands. I'm not only going to have to be an example for
my boy. But I'm going to have to keep boys away from my daughter."
AJ says.
I can't help but start laughing.
"What? Why are you
laughing?" AJ asks.
"You just crack me up.
You're going to be one of those fathers who doesn't let their daughter
date until she's thirty." I say laughing.
"Well, you're going to be
one of those mothers that turns their son into a momma's boy." AJ
says laughing.
"No, I won't. I expect
him to be tough. I'm not your average girl you know." I say.
"That's true. You're
the only girl I know that can actually get me down, and keep me down, in
a wrestling match." AJ says.
We both start to laugh.
The doctor walks in the room with a manilla envelope.
"Here are your pictures
you two." The doctor says.
"May we go now?" I
ask.
"You're free to go," the
doctor says, "don't forget to come back for your check up in two weeks."
"I won't." I say.
"Yeah right," AJ says under
his breath, "don't worry Doc, I'll remind her."
