Chapter 63

"AJ said that things didn't seem to be like they used to."  Howie says.
"I'm just really jet lagged, that's all."  I say  "Is it about me not going with him to the 'Sing-in' tonight?"
"Well, partly, yeah."  Howie says.  "You know how much he would want you to be by his side.  He was going to sing a song for you."
"You know...not that I don't love him singing songs for me.  Because I do love it.  But I'm tired of 'him' always singing the songs.  I've got an idea big bro...but I'm going to need you guys help."  I say.
I talk to Howie about my plan.  Just as we figure out exactly how to do it, AJ walks in.
"What are you guys talking about?"  AJ asks as he walks in.
"Just stuff.  I haven't gotten to talk to any of you for about two months.  It's about time I made up for it."  I say.
AJ lays a tray of food on my lap and says, "Breakfast in bed Madame."
"I think you've been in France too long dude."  Howie says laughing.
"Oh be nice, I think it's cute."  I say.

(Before everyone leaves)

"Baby, I am really sorry I can't go.  But I just don't have the energy."  I tell AJ.
"It's OK, I just want you to get your energy back; so we can get back to our...usual activities."  AJ says with a smile.
I give him a kiss and say, "I love you."
"I love you too.  Sweet dreams."  AJ says closing the bedroom door.
When I hear the front door close, I jump out of bed and take my rob off; under it is a long black dress.  I think to myself 'I can't believe AJ didn't notice this.'  I run over to the mirror to put on my make-up; I look at my dress in the mirror.  It's probably one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever had.  It's cut low in the front; and really low in the back.  It's off the shoulders and makes my skin look like porcelain.  I put my make-up on, and then put my hair up in a French-twist.  I run to the elevator, go to the ground floor, and run outside to where Nick is standing next to a limo.
"It's about time."  Nick says.
"Sorry, I had to put on make-up."  I say getting into the limo with Nick.
"OK, now Howie took Tiffany as his date for the sing-in so that she could get in.  AJ, Brian, Sarah, Howie, Tiffany, Kevin, and Shena are already on their way there.  I told them that I would be going later, because I forgot something."  Nick says.
"You're such a liar."  I say laughing.
"I'm not lying, I forgot you."  Nick says laughing.  "Anyway, I can get you in girl; but after that your on your own.  The guys will get suspicious if I'm not with them."
"Gosh Nick, you act like we're in the movie 'Mission Impossible.'  Just chill, this will work."  I say as we pull up in front of the building.
"OK, lets go."  Nick says.
I take his arm and we walk into the building.  Nick shows doorman his invitation and we walk in.  The room is so elegantly decorated.  There are roses, in vases, everywhere, and huge chandelier's hanging from the ceiling.  I look around at all of the people, everyone is dressed in their very best.  I look down the stairs, at the bottom is Howie and Tiffany.  I run down the stairs to them.
"Girl, how many times do I have to tell you to watch out?"  Tiffany snaps.
Nick and Howie look at Tiffany and me.
They both ask, "What are you talking about?"
"Yeah Tiffy G.  What are you talking about?"  I ask Tiffany shooting her a look.
"Well,...I just mean...you're too spontaneous.  You could have ripped the dress running down those stairs."  Tiffany says.
"Oh, well, it is a pretty dress."  Howie says.
"I know, AJ will just melt when he sees her."  Tiffany says.
"It's about to start.  Good luck sweetie."  Howie says.
"Thanks."  I say.
I make my way to the singing director so I can tell him what I'm going to do.
All the way through the 'Sing-in,' Tiffany, Sarah, and Shena come and keep me posted.  But each one of them say the same thing.  They tell me that AJ just keeps looking down at the table depressed.  Around the middle of the 'Sing-in,' Howie comes to talk to me.
"OK girl.  I think it's about time for you to get up there.  He just called off our performance."  Howie says.
"What?!  He can't."  I say.
"He did, he refuses to sing.  He said he's not in the mood."  Howie says.
"Maybe if this works, he'll change his mind."  I say.
"Whatever your going to do, you better do it quick.  Nick is having a hard time convincing him to stay.  He's tried to get up and leave twice already."  Howie says.
"Crap.  OK, I'll do it.  You go back and keep him there."  I say.
I look out into the dimly lit room.  The faces are so shadowed, they're barely recognizable.  Nicks eyes are lit with mischief as he awaits the surprise he help set up.  I can feel my heart beating faster and faster as my time to sing grows nearer.  My mind races to thoughts of the surprise on the guys faces when they see me.
The director walks up on stage and says, "OK, this next performance is a very special one.  The song being sung is 'Dreaming of You.'  I know you all will enjoy this one."
The room goes quiet and suddenly its as if my nervousness never existed.  The instrumental begins to play and I feel as if I'm soaring on a wind, high above the clouds.  I look at AJ; he's looking down at his glass, like he has been all night.  I look at the guys, Sarah, Shena, and Tiffany; they are all in shock.  Well, all except Howie and Nick, they have a big smile on they're face's.  Howie starts to get AJ's attention; but I shake my head and stop him.  I find my voice and begin to hum with the introduction.  I hum with a pureness that can only be explained by my love for AJ.
